I am interested in power.

[...perhaps not the most reassuring of openings, but at least it was straight to the point?]

Training for the duration of time I have, both individually and with a mentor--[yes, she considers Kylo a 'mentor']--has allowed me to achieved a greater understanding of the concept.  However, with that understanding has come...curiosity, if you will.

Many of those designated as Foreigners have shown signs of possessing unique abilities from a seemingly infinite number of sources.  Some of these abilities are innate, while others appear to be borrowed through external means.  I am curious about these abilities and their origins, if you are willing to oblige me with this information.

[Though her voice and tone appeared neutral throughout, it was clear from the look in her eyes that Aya was more than simply curious.  She was looking for...something.  Something which she would not explicitly say aloud.]

Thank you.

Don't worry about disappointing him.

[Kylo wasn't worth the emotional trauma]

As long as you are not disappointed in yourself, that's all that matters.

Because, in the end, the only approval you need is your own.

[And Kylo Ren would probably never be satisfied, so pleasing him was a fools errand.]

Now, on the matter of power...You said you are the only one of your kind. So you have no one to compare your power to, is that what prompted your curiosity?

[Valdis herself hadn't experienced much of that, but she possessed more pride, she didn't need validation from others in most aspects of her life. But many mortals did, so she couldn't begrudge Aya that.]

There are a great many things that others can help us discover about ourselves...but I still don't see how learning about the powers and abilities of others will help you find more about yourself.

Have you ever tried meditating at the Turtle's Head? I've always found it very helpful for self reflection.

The Turtle's Head is very peaceful, almost magically so, it allows you to...remove unnecessary distractions and focus on exactly what you desire to focus on.

[Had Aya really just asked her to explain magic? Because it certainly seemed so and Valdis had no idea how to explain Tu Vishan.]

I've simply found that reaching serenity at that location is easier than in the city.

It isn't unique to me, I can assure you of that, but nonetheless, it couldn't hurt to try. I'll even go with you, if you like.

I don't mind at all.

[Or at least she didn't think it would be a problem.]

Just let me know and I'll be there.
