[Valdis appears more relaxed and content than usual, her hair is braided and pulled over one shoulder.]

Though it was some time ago, I appreciated your defense of me against the unfounded charges anonymously posted to the network and am pleased to say that I have spoken with Arbitrator Eliyen and have been reinstated as the KPD's Chief of Police.

The past few months have not been ideal, but I would like to thank Pepper, Gene and Kaliel for handling the KPD in my absence. It isn't an easy job and it was made even more difficult due to the atrocities committed by the Cultists. The KPD has several of these cultists in custody, but they are nothing more than pawns in a greater plan. I promise that we will find the masterminds and they will pay for their crimes.

[Now for the new things]

To better serve Keeliai, I will be doubling the number of officers in the coming months. In addition, we acquired four Kirin a few months ago for a mounted force, but need a single person to devote some time to their care. If anyone is interested in that position, please let me know.

That is all.

I am interested in power.

[...perhaps not the most reassuring of openings, but at least it was straight to the point?]

Training for the duration of time I have, both individually and with a mentor--[yes, she considers Kylo a 'mentor']--has allowed me to achieved a greater understanding of the concept.  However, with that understanding has come...curiosity, if you will.

Many of those designated as Foreigners have shown signs of possessing unique abilities from a seemingly infinite number of sources.  Some of these abilities are innate, while others appear to be borrowed through external means.  I am curious about these abilities and their origins, if you are willing to oblige me with this information.

[Though her voice and tone appeared neutral throughout, it was clear from the look in her eyes that Aya was more than simply curious.  She was looking for...something.  Something which she would not explicitly say aloud.]

Thank you.

I’ve made a fascinating discovery about your Red Dust.

[ For a moment that seems to the end of it but added as, what seems to be an after thought- ]

Oh, and it looks like I've managed to figure out how to stabilise it before you. Tough break that.

If you're feeling the need to try and extract the information from me, I invite you to try.

You know where I'll be.

Helloooo, residents of Keeliai!

[Here's a new face -- and someone who doesn't really seem bothered by the news that he's not in his own world. He's smiling, perfectly relaxed, like he does this all the time. He doesn't look at all like someone just had to explain to him how one console connects to every other console in the city, plus a whole bunch of smaller communicators. Man, the wonders of magitechnology.]

I'm sure you hear this all the time, but your women are beautiful. Don't worry, I got the hint, they're off-limits, but I mean it. All you lovely ladies out there, you're gorgeous. It's amazing you have a way for me to be able to tell everyone that at once, this... whatever this is. Seriously.

[His smile brightens, giving the impression he really means it, and then he waves a hand.]

Oh yeah, and it looks like I'm not the only Foreigner here. Anyone want to show me the ropes? The kedan are great, but there's only so much you can get out of them. Apparently -- [And here's the first instance of Zelos looking less than comfortable.] -- we're on the back of a giant turtle.

[Good day, fellow turtle dwellers.]

[Or not so good, in poor Aya's case.  It would seem the recent illnesses that have been going around are not carbon-based life form exclusive; her construct skin was pale and even occasionally flickered.  She appeared drained of energy, and yet maintained a pleasant smile that indicating her weariness did not bring her pain.]

First, I must ask you forgive my physical appearance at this time.  I can assure you, extensive internal and external tests have concluded that I am of no danger to other life forms, and will regain maximum processing capacity within another twelve hours' standby mode.

[In case anyone was worried]

Second...I have been spending much of my recent time scanning through a variety of texts made available to me in order to catalogue the written language, and have noted an interesting pattern.

Tales that are written by the same individual who are also the primary character are simultaneously more intimate in details, which allows for more insight, and yet...not all details provided appear to align with reasonable standards of logic and reason.  Whereas tales written by an individual who is not the primary character are vaguer in certain details, and yet come across via a more objective, realistic narrative.  And yet they are both quite amusing to read.

I am interested if this is a pattern others have noticed in their literary pursuits, both in this World and their own.

[If there was one thing practically guaranteed to put Danny into a foul mood, it was this time of year. He had never, not once, ever had a Christmas he enjoyed.

And if anything this year was only going to be worse.

After last year he'd promised, okay?  He'd promised not to let his usual holiday funk interfere with his family and friend's enjoyment of the season. He'd promised to be better, to try.

And here he was, alone. None of the people he' made that promise for were here. And Danny was just done.

He scowls into the video feed.]

Look, I don't know if people celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or whatever here. I'm just going to get this out before people start going nuts and all the tacky decorations go up.

Leave me out of it.  I don't like this time of year and I'm not about to start.

[ It's the second time a message from Kylo Ren shows up in as many months, a new record! What joy!

But this misfired text message going public by morning isn't one he would have wanted to share. ]

[ Such is the result of sampling too much of the local brews, and then experimenting with new technology.

Kylo, enjoy your hangover with a little extra, courtesy of the malfunctioning network. ]

I've been thinking and writing some things down, and something I've wanted to ask...

What would you consider very... mm, 'defining' I suppose is the word I'm looking for? Something that you feel your reality wouldn't be the same without. Don't worry, I'll go first.

[ She flashes a knowing smile at that. ]

Certainly, there are certainly many historical events that shaped the world, but if I had to pick one that's affective to Columbia in my era would be the discovery a few decades ago of the Lutece Particle, which in turn is used to make a Lutuce Field. Another term for it is called 'quantum levitation', and it suspends atoms in mid-air by a controllable field, allowing things to be manipulated within the sphere of gravity, and to impart those effects onto other objects.

[ Someone's read The Principles of Quantum Mechanics a few too many times... ]

And that's how Columbia is an airborne city. So, I think things in my reality would be very different if that hadn't been discovered!

I thought more would come of the unrest. I admit I am...disappointed. Chaos can bring about so many necessary changes. (The slightest and most delicate of pauses.) For example, governments can be overthrown and enemies can be silenced.

(For good in his mind. Death is the great equalizersilencer.)

Are you so bereft of passion, my fellow citizens, that you are willing to lay down and let magic control you? How long until we are warped or confused or something worse befalls us?

I think we need shields.

If you are intrigued by my proposition, I suggest we meet. You have nothing to fear.
