[ a haggard looking young man sits on a bed, his hands wringing together over and over again as he speaks. There's a hollowness to his stare, and he takes a little longer than most between his sentences, thoughtfully ]

I was working...on having responsibilities again. I baked bread starting at four in the morning until noon. At noon I fed the geese. Depending on the day, I might have free time after that, but by dinner I helped Katniss cook and I would dead-head the flowers in the garden.

The schedule...helped.

[ his hands spasm erratically for a moment, then still as Peeta clenches his jaw ]

And now I'm here. [ he offers a tight smile ] And that means I'm not feeding geese and the garden's not going anywhere anytime soon. Not to mention there's a possible deer overpopulation problem in District Twelve.

[ he sighs ]

So there go my responsibilities. And schedule. I guess this serves as a fair warning for you all.

[ he wisely remains silent on the katniss comment. he takes a deep breath, rolling his shoulders ]

Right now, I'm. Fine. But I don't know what it's going to be like once I go out.

Well, you're not missing out on much. I doubt staying inside for a while will hurt anyone.

I guess it would be polite to lift up the rug and see if there's a shell.

[ he smiles ]

You know you're the first one to tell me to stay put? Instead of seeing the world, making new friends, and contributing to society.

I'm not too interested in manual labor, but go for it. Just try not to crack the shell, if you hit the bottom.

[Her smirk may not be visible but he can hear the dark amusement in her tone.]

Like a good little citizen? Please. I'm not interested in dealing with the mess that might come with you going for a stroll through the park.

Luckily for both us, manual labor is kind of my thing. I'll let you know the results.

[ he actually chuckles. finally. someone gets it gawd ]

I was about to offer to run arts and crafts, actually.

[Dryly:] I'm eagerly waiting, in case you couldn't tell.

Finger painting always did seem like your thing.

[ he rubs his hands together ]

Those are gone too. My paintings, I mean. [ because they were such cheerful things ] Do you have anything from Panem?

I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to unleash your tortured soul on paper later, if you set up a new schedule. [There's a pause, followed by a brief snort. The 'like what?' is left unsaid.] Nothing I could use.

Scared some birds will come singing after you?

[ he sighs at that ] I just...don't want to forget. About any of it.

Not really. I can't exactly carry a tune.

[She gets that, in a way. Remembering is all she has, after all.] They wouldn't let you. [Finnick, Katniss.] Though if you're that worried, maybe you'd better start committing it to paper.

[ a grim smile ] What else could you have picked for your talent then, if not making children cry or singing?

[ he rubs his hands, shaking his heads ]

They can't help me, with everything. But...writing it down might not be a bad idea.

Besides murder? I don't know. Whittling, maybe. [She shrugs, trying to dismiss the topic.]

Just don't lose it. Like you said, we're not going to be able to fill in all the gaps.

I can't control whether I lose it or not. Sometimes they get shiny. And then, well. I don't really know what happens.
