[ a haggard looking young man sits on a bed, his hands wringing together over and over again as he speaks. There's a hollowness to his stare, and he takes a little longer than most between his sentences, thoughtfully ]

I was working...on having responsibilities again. I baked bread starting at four in the morning until noon. At noon I fed the geese. Depending on the day, I might have free time after that, but by dinner I helped Katniss cook and I would dead-head the flowers in the garden.

The schedule...helped.

[ his hands spasm erratically for a moment, then still as Peeta clenches his jaw ]

And now I'm here. [ he offers a tight smile ] And that means I'm not feeding geese and the garden's not going anywhere anytime soon. Not to mention there's a possible deer overpopulation problem in District Twelve.

[ he sighs ]

So there go my responsibilities. And schedule. I guess this serves as a fair warning for you all.

I don't really relax anymore. [ he looks around, and the video is angled so you can see the canals and decor of the Water sector ] Maybe that's why they put me here. Smart of them.

I can't tell if you're actually dark or just trying to sound tough, but I can pretty much guarantee you that ninety-five percent of the people here have no idea who you are [Santo doesn't, at least.] and I'm pretty sure that nobody just up and decided to send you here.

[ a hint of a smile ]

Though I am something of a celebrity back home. [ the smile grows ] I guess there's no accounting for taste in Panem.

I didn't ask for all the details. I was good with the killing for fun or whatever part. That's seriously messed up.

Why are you people marketing that kind of stuff anyway? I mean, it's not unheard of, but it's totally supervillain-grade evil back where I'm from.

[ a shrug ] I think originally it was to remind the Districts that the Capitol would always crush them and what the punishment for rebellion was.

After a while, someone just got. Business strategy. It was mandatory viewing, which made it the best place to get publicity and product placement.

Yeah, that's still sounding like some evil shit. And it's serious overkill if they just want to remind you that you all got your asses handed to you.

[ said in dark humor ] It took 75 years before anything happened, so I guess it was effective.

And I'd think it could have been avoided altogether if they didn't force you to kill each other all the time, and treated you fairly. [But what does he know?]

Anyway, you're a long way from home, dude. There's no games or whatever here, and you'd not going to be able to get home, so you might as well try to relax and enjoy it if you can.

I don't think that ever really figured into their equation.

[ he looks outside to the peaceful water canals and fountains ]

I don't think I ever really learned how to do that.

[Santo just sighs a little.]

What did you do for fun, then? I mean, before you were on the world's worst game show?

I worked. Everyone in the Districts worked.

[ he closes his eyes, trying to remember ]

I think I used to like wrestling.

Dude... You're life kind of sucks, and I come from the species that's the king of sucky lives. Uh, no offense, man.

[He does perk up a little when Peeta mentions wrestling, though.]

Wrestling? You mean real wrestling right? [aka Professional Wrestling that isn't real at all.] You mean the greatest sport known to mankind?

[ he smiles a little at that ] None taken.

[ he gives a roll of his shoulder. he doesn't know what qualifies as real wrestling here ]

Yeah, at school we would have matches sometime. I came in second for the District.

But hey! You can be an honorary mutant now that you've met the requirement of at least half a population wanting you dead. [High-five... Only this is totally inappropriate.]

Lucky! I'm probably the best in my school, but nobody really wants to wrestle me because I'd beat their asses so bad... Or crush them. [Unintentionally, of course.]

[ he freezes ]

[ Peeta looks panicked, his hands start fidgeting. ]

[Aw, does he have to do this again?]

I'm not a mutt, I'm a mutant. Come on, dude...

[After a small pause.]

Oh, and I'm not going to try to kill you either. The girl seemed pretty concerned about that.

[ he still looks uneasy ] Which girl?

I don't think I caught her name, but she was kind of cute. A bit stand-offish, but she might have just been freaked out. I don't know.

She was pretty worried that I was a mutt and coming to kill her though.
