--oh, shoot. Just how do I work this contraption? I knew I should've asked for specific directions... Is it a phone? Or... something... huh?

[ The feed opens up to one confused looking Avatar with a hand paused mid-scratch at the side of her head. Blink blink. She straightens and attempts to clear her throat a bit, but even doing that does nothing to remove the slightly confused frown on her face. ]

So... Keeliai. [ how does i start conversation to people she isn't even sure she might be speaking to ] It's... a nice looking place, I guess. I have so many questions, but I think I should start off with...

What next? I mean, if anyone's got any helpful suggestions on how to deal with this place, I'd be all for it. Really!

[ Pause. ]

Uh-- oh, right! The name's Korra. It's nice to meet... whoever'll be answering this message. I hope. Ugh.

[ She's making a fool of herself, she knows it. ]

[Asami smiles in response to Korra's expression.]

I appreciate that, Korra.

[Best Avabro, okay.]

[ That grin gets wider, yes. ]

Hehe, no problem! [ She even raises her glass of iced tea in a sort of salute. ] Anyway, you said you were gonna explain some things?

Right. Okay, so.

[She hops up on a stool beside the kitchen's island, and spins it until she's facing Korra a little more directly.]

I was one of the first people here. Maybe even the first, I guess, because people were still arriving by the time I'd made it back to the city. I've been here for eighteen days. One of the first things the kedan did was throw a party, they kind of claimed it was in our honour - 'our' meaning the foreigners, people who've ended up here like you and me. But on the last day of the festival, two people - Princess Yue and another woman I haven't really spoken with - were dragged up on stage by a gang leader and threatened with public executions. The man ranted for a while about how we've been brought here to 'save' everyone and then the head of the police force here, Evandau, appeared and killed the gang leaders.

It was awful. It felt like-- it reminded me of Amon. A show of power in front of everyone like that... I'm not sure which was worse, the gang leader or the chief of police. I don't feel like we can trust anyone here. Not the Emperor, not the police... maybe other foreigners, if we're lucky.

[She exhales a little. That's most of the details she has so far, and she looks to Korra to see if the girl has any questions.]

[ Korra listens with rapt attention at Asami's experience in this place so far. She was still mad that people had the gall to kidnap Princess Yue of all people, and...

Oh, damn. Korra hopes Asami didn't see her flinch at the mention of Amon. Her grip on her glass tightens slightly, but she quickly shakes that off. ]

So what's the plan? We can't just constantly live in some sort of... of fear in this place.

No. We can't. And we aren't going to. There's an audience with the Emperor later today, and I really think one of us should go and speak with her. Once we know more about this place, we can decide what we're going to do.

[She pauses, and then,]

In the meantime, I think we should try and forge an alliance with the other foreigners. We're all in the same boat here, and I'd rather we be as organized as possible. Especially if they're going to just attack us out of the blue.

[ Korra makes a small, thoughtful sound. If one of her hands isn't currently busy holding her drink, she'd be crossing her arms to all of that. ]

Sounds like a smart idea. Like that old saying, uh... "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer"? [ Hey, she can listen to all that philosophical/tactical stuff from time to time. Then she shrugs. ]

How about I go talk to this "Emperor"? I've got a few questions I'd like to ask. Anything you want me to pass along?

[Her expression is amused.]

Something like that.

[Korra you're so cute when you're spouting philosophy!]

Korra... Why don't we just go together?

[They've proven that they're stronger in numbers, haven't they? That shouldn't change just because they're someplace new.]

[ The suggestion takes her by slight surprise. ] You sure about that? I mean, not that I wouldn't want you around, but...

[ Well, she'd want to keep her friend safe. Still not really trusting this place and going up against authoritative figures... well, Korra has sort of been getting that they always seem to have some sort of trump up their sleeve. ]

Of course I'm sure. I wouldn't have suggested it otherwise.

[Gosh, Korra.]

[ And that look gives way to a grin. ]

Okay, okay! Wanna head over there now? [ Pausing to drink the rest of her tea down. ] I kind of feel like I have to keep moving, you know? I still feel a bit... groggy for some reason.

[ After putting down her glass... stretching and flexing a bit! ]

Everyone does when they first arrive. It wears off after the first day or so. People with abilities seem to be hit harder than the rest of us.

[She sets her glass down as well.]

Yeah. Let's go. But, um... before we do--

Korra, what's the last thing you remember before you arrived here?

[ Pauses in an overhead stretch as she thinks about that. ]

Last thing I remember? Huh... We were... We were escaping from Air Temple Island since Amon's Equalists overran the place. Why?

Oh no... I was worried about that.

[She rests her elbow in her opposite hand, presses her fingers lightly against her temple.]

We're from different times. I'm... from after that. After everything.

[ She blinks, staring at Asami as though she'd grown another head. Then... oh, wait! She knows! She takes a couple of steps towards Asami and leaning in interest. ]

Y-You do? You know what happened? Did we win? [ Annnnd... there she goes again. ]

Yeah. We won.

[Her smile is small, but encouraging. No point in telling Korra the details, not unless she asks directly. Winning was the important part.]

[ And of course, it's Asami. Who is she to doubt? ]

That's amazing! We helped save Republic City! [ Excite, excite. Then... ] Was I, uh... able to airbend at all, though?

[Korra's enthusiasm has always been a little infectious, and Asami smiles despite herself.]

You did. I'm pretty sure you're still technically a novice at it, but you can do it.

[ Then Korra makes a show of looking a tad hurt at that, but that grin remains plastered on her face. ]

Ouch, Asami! I've been practicing really hard on that! [ She laughs for another moment, then... Oh. Serious and curious face time. ] What about your father?

[That smile falters.]

He's... in prison. There's no better place for him, as far as I'm concerned.

[ Her grin also drops quickly. ]

Are you sure? [ After all, it's an overall shitty situation to be in so. ] I'm sorry, Asami.

No. No, don't be. He deserves it.

[There's no shortage of resolve in her voice, and she manages another smile for Korra.]

It's all right. Mostly I... just need to work out what I'm going to be doing with Future Industries. Back home, anyway. Here...

[ Korra is silent for a moment before she also nods. Right, if Asami's going to be strong about it, she might as well be, too, to help support. ]

Heeeere... you have to worry about a certain Avatar not throwing the place around for a loop?

[ Attempt to lighten things up is go! ]

[That earns her a grateful look.]

Oh, I think she'll do all right. This 'Avatar' person. I heard she's pretty amazing.

[ She laughs, unconsciously scratching the back of her head at that. ]

Well, she's only amazing because people like you are her friends. [ Then she smiles. ] I'm really glad you're here, Asami.

I'm glad you're here too, Korra. I guess if we're going to be stuck on the back of a turtle it might as well be together, right? I hope Mako and Bolin show up...

[She manages to keep herself from saying Mako's name any differently than her normal.]
