It appears as if new arrivals are a fairly frequent occurrence. Every weekend, it seems. I know it's a trying time and very frustrating, but if one chooses to think of it as an opportunity as opposed to misfortune, then perhaps it isn't quite so bad. In any case - welcome.

Now, down to business -- literally. [ she smiles and it's a bit more cautious this time, head tilting slightly as she wonders at the wisdom of her query. ]
I have been told by the kedan that there is an area of my sector that caters to specific needs and comforts, and while I am certain their tastes run true, mine, perhaps, might be a bit different.
For those of you that don't know me, my name is Inara Serra, and I am a Companion. [ seeing as no one here seems to be from the 'Verse, she decides to elaborate - delicately. ]
I provide company, conversation and comfort to those who might desire such a thing, and I am paid [ a high sum ] for my time. I entertain, converse with, and bestow companionship to my clients, and ensure that they have only a positive, enlightening and joyful experience when they are with me.
[ another polite smile. ]
If there is, perhaps, someone here who could show me some of the...finer institutions that the city has to offer that might be more suited to my personal tastes, I would be most grateful. Thank you.

I'm an actor, right? And yeah I enjoy my work but... it's not anything I would have ever wanted to go after on my own. It's my mom's dream. Something she wants for herself. And she's using me to get what she wants. And that's-- whatever, right? It happens all the time. But there's no point anybody else should ever have to do things they don't want to because somebody else said so.

I see. [ his concern becomes a bit more clear. ] You are very correct – no one should have to do something they don’t want to.
But this was no one’s choice but my own. Companions are registered, licensed individuals who work within a certain perimeter of Guild law and statutes. I have never been forced to do this – nor will I ever. That is also guild law. I choose my clients, as well as when, where and how much I work.
[ now, anyway. Back on Sihnon it was a bit more constricted, but that was back when she had her eyes on Priestess and back before things got complicated. ]

I enjoy my work and all that comes with it. With my training and extensive education, I am able to provide clients with comfort when they need it, pleasure when they seek it, entertainment when they want it, and someone to talk to when there might not be anyone else. There are…certain confidentiality rules that I as well as my clients must abide by, and that provides a safe environment and haven for both myself and them.

The Guild allows Companions to black mark any client that mistreats or hurts. They are removed from the client registry and no Companion will ever conduct business with them again. I assure you Brandon, I am safe – and I am happy.

Though my occupation is hardly filled with more danger than some others. [ well that’s – kind of a lie. Being on Serenity has certainly upped that ante. ]

I'm not very good at it. I mean, superheroes are supposed to be like these selfless paragons of justice and righteousness and I...
[He's told enough people this story. Steph. Tommy. Mentioned it flippantly just to get a rise out of people. Saying it to Inara is nothing.]
Just before I came here I tortured somebody. Heroes don't really do that sort of thing. They're too busy turning the other cheek.

Mmm. I’ve found that the ‘good guys’ aren’t always the ones polished to perfection and dressed in pretty uniforms.

There's lots to avoid. People trying to kill you or sacrifice you to a god or something. Crazy gang wars. Terrorists. Plenty of those I guess.
[He shrugs.]
I bet our tastes are kind of... divergent in terms of what we like to see.
