[ Eames figures this is part of some grand scheme to get back at him. He's never been the kindest chap, so he has no doubts that he's ticked off someone somewhere. He's up against some fine dreamers, the attention of the place -- the authenticity and the details in the world building should make him feel intimidated, but Eames takes this is a gamble. All high stakes with a lot to lose. He doesn't believe the whole situation where they're in a world of Dreams, Death and Living - he figures it's part of the game to lull the mark into a false sense of security by showing him familiar elements.

So Eames will play along until he manages a better picture of what's been painted to him. When the feed turns itself on, Eames looks positively lost. You don't spend so much time pretending to be other people without learning a few tricks yourself, so the act is a solid one. His tone is hesitant. ]

Right. Well. So I guess, the nice - Kedan - wassit? Explained a couple of things with this -- [ he makes a gesture with his hands. ] place.

This is a bit much to take in. So I gotta ask - are they known for their honesty? They tellin' us the whole story with being between death and life and dreaming?

I'm sure by now we've all had our fuss over the Emperor's verbal spanking - yes? No? Want to throw a few more things? It'll do us all a world of good, no doubt.

[He sighs.] Talked to the folks upstairs and got permission to put together a temporary task force until the shell's repaired. Looking for those willing to work in teams and in shifts to keep our own clear of the damaged areas. I'd prefer none of us find out what the inside of a palace prison looks like, because for some reason I doubt it'll be so luxurious as the word 'palace' might suggest.

[A pause, like he's gauging his audience.] The creature we're all getting a piggy-back from is hurt. These people want to heal it, and they can only do that if we stay out of their way. Maybe we don't want to be here, maybe we weren't asked to come here, but the animal wasn't the one that done it and it shouldn't be the one that pays.

If you think you'd like to earn a little money and help protect something the person who rules this place likely values more than her own life, speak up. Even if you don't want to, think of it this way - you do this now, maybe you earn yourself a little favor down the road. If you think this is a terrible idea, well, too damn bad. You're welcome to try and play in the sewage sandbox, and I will happily see to it that you get dragged out by your ears and put in time out for being the children she seems to think we are.

Now who wants to hold hands with our neighbors and see what happens if we actually do as we're asked? Because I'll be frank, I'm a bit curious.

[ the feed turns on and for a few moments, there’s nothing. Haytham’s giving it a critical eye, a few turns this way and that, before settling it down. The technology is fascinating, and comparable to stuffs made by the First Civilization, at least in the eyes of someone unfamiliar with it all. Haytham clears his throat, purses his lips, and turns the device around to face him finally. ]

The recent calamity that hath befallen this place was a mortally dangerous one, as we all are keenly aware. [When the video feed comes on Pepper can be seen writing in her notebook. She really wishes that she could have a personal computer that she wasn't worried was bugged. Still, paranoid people can't have everything they want. There's a steaming mug of coffee sitting next to her with fish on it. They're painted on and look as if they're swimming around the mug.]

[Henry is leaning back in the chair in front of his computer and he holds a book bound in yellow paper in his slender hands. From the angle at which he holds it, the title is not quite visible. ]

A flawed memory is an inconvenience, though a perfect memory is a curse. But had my memory been better, I would sooner have recalled what this place reminds me of. Oh, I could perceive from the beginning that it is very like the fantasies that prompt a man to fill his house with blue china—and there is something as well of the mechanical dreams of M. Verne and his kind.

[Ever since arriving, Bruce has spent the better part his time here trying to decide how best to handle this situation. He's long since shed his costume and put it away on the lower floor of his suite. Best not to put that on for a while. After, he combed through the suite (yes in his underwear) and tried his radio with no success.

That's when he spots the console.

When Bruce activates the voice function on his console, he's putting away the Batman voice, in order to sound as innocuous as possible. He has no civilian clothes and he would really rather not have the Batman associated with him. It's bad enough the kedan saw him in costume. He needed to put some distance between himself and the suit as quickly as possible.]
