[Enjolras sits at attention, back straight at possible, in front of the computer. He has the look of someone who hasn't been sleeping well, but his eyes are bright and attentive all the same. In the background his two friends are visible.]

My name in Enjolras. I was a French Citizen, killed on the morning of June the 6th, 1832 while taking part in a revolution to overthrow the corrupt July Monarchy. It is after this that I found myself here two days ago. You may already have met my friends Combeferre and Prouvaire. I wish to thank those of you I have already met, and who have offered my companions and I aid.

[He nods his head in quick thanks. There is clearly something else on his mind he thinks more important than either introductions or thanks.]

It is regarding my other companions that I ask you for your aid today, as we are uncertain whether they are amongst us here on Tu Vishan or not.

They would be dressed in a similar fashion to my friends and I, and undoubtedly all have arrived in an injured fashion. They go by the names of: Courfeyrac, Feuilly, Joly, Bahorel, Lesgles - though he may prefer Bossuet - and Marius. [A slight pause.] Grantiare also.

I might also ask if anyone has information regarding the political nature of this Empir- [There's a comment behind him, too quiet for the microphone to pick up. Enjolras turns to listen, then continues without finishing his previous thought.]

We are situated in the Wood sector, should you come across them at a later stage. Again, I thank you for your attention.

There is nothing we require at this time. Our apartments have been well stocked to meet all of our needs, I believe. But thank you, all the same. It is kind of you to offer.

[Enjolras is used to similar statements made by wealthy men who never expect to follow through on their promises. This unseen person seems strangely sincere.]

Such generosity towards others is very rare, monsieur. I thank you for your kindness, and will keep you in mind.

It's less rare here than you might think.

[ Jack smiles a little. ]

My name's Jack... "monsieur" is a little formal for me.

Ah, I see. Jack.

[And that just feels wrong. Why are people so informal in the future.]

[ a faint quirk of a smile ]

Was it so bad? I can answer to monsieur if you really prefer it.

[Enjolras' face remains thoughtful.]

I would. I am used to more formality between strangers. Perhaps when we are better acquainted.

All right then. I've never had anyone use "Mr Frost" before but I'll try anything once.

[There is an awkward pause. Enjolras is not quite the best at conversing with people he doesn't know.]

[ Enjolras gets a grin even though he can't see it. ]

Deep breaths, okay? Think of the Pont Neuf on the Seine at dawn and how nice it looked overlooking Île de la Cité.

[The casual mention of the bridge, and a seemingly intimate knowledge with the sight surprises Enjolras.]

You- are familiar with Paris?

Oh, you could say I go there on a seasonal tour each year.

[Now he is curious and slightly suspicious.]

Your family must be very wealthy to afford to travel so much.

[ Jack shakes his head, the gesture carrying into his words. ]

No money, no family. I just go wherever the Wind takes me.

[ Very literally. ]

I must ask, monsieur, what year it was when you left your home.

[He hadn't realised how much difference it made knowing that the person you were conversing with had at least some common experiences with you (whether your could see them or not).]

[ Jack hesitates for a moment, wondering if and how truthfully he should answer the question. ]

Probably from later than you are, Enjolras. But Paris is always Paris, isn't it? It's timeless.

Perhaps, though I should hope that at least some parts have not remained the same over time.

[ sounding slightly cautious: ] What about you? What year is it that you're from?

I died June the 6th, 1832.

[ Jack takes a deep breath and holds it for a moment, then exhales in a crackle of frosted air. There's no shock, no disbelief... and no pity when he replies. ]

Sometimes people get a second chance. I'm glad that you're one them... you seem like a good person who deserves it.

[He shakes his head. It seems a lot of people here either do no understand or agree with a man dying for a cause.] You mean well, but it is not the truth. It would have been better if my death had been the end of me.

I have become terrible, in the name of Revolution and the Republic, and I have judged myself for it already.

... I've been around a long time, Enjolras. I've seen revolutions and wars, ones that were before your time and ones that came after.

As awful as it is, I know that sometimes people have to give their lives for what is right. But never, never has anyone left behind said, "they're better off dead".

So please don't think you deserved it.

[Enjolras blinks, taken aback for a moment.] No- you have misunderstood me. I did not mean that in any maudlin sense, as though my presence in the world were an ill that my death would cure.

[He pauses, trying to order his thoughts.] I do not believe in heaven, or hell, or purgatory. A man has one life, and it is his responsibility to live it as best he can. In my death I gave up all of myself to the goal of a Republic, for Equality and Freedom. Why should I now have more, when not all men receive this chance?

[ Jack frowns, sounding rather disgruntled at being corrected and a bit awkward at having put something personal out there. ]

Well, don't start your sentence with "I have become terrible"! What is anyone supposed to think?

Have you never fought other men? Those I fought were not my enemy, not really. They were my brothers and fellow citizens, but I killed them all the same. That is what has made me terrible.

[He would have killed as many as he needed to, in order for Republic to come.]
