[ Kara faces the screen all but completely relaxed. It’s a huge change from her last post. She bites her thumbnail nervously, but apart from that she looks practically happy. Once she realizes she’s doing it she puts her hand down and addresses the camera. ]

I’ve been thinking, and I’d like to know more about Earth. Not just the places and the food, but the culture and history. There are plenty of other interesting planets I’d like to learn about, but most of the people here seem to be from Earth, so it’s probably the best place to start.

[ York said rebuild. Maybe now she’s building something new. It’s hard to say really, but her curiosity is what’s driving her now. That and the awkward social conundrums that arise from not knowing what any of this Earth stuff means, translation or not. The anonymous texter said to start with what she knew and work her way out. ]

I have a friend who’s from Ireland. She showed me around New York a little bit. I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about her home?

What about... do you know much about space travel? It wasn't possible on Krypton.

Excuse him, he's just going to start talking about the history of space flight. In detail. From the first cosmonaut in space to the rovers on mars, you are just going to get the past fifty plus years of history on Everything Space Travel.]

[ And Kara listens with rapt attention and a look as though she really does understand what he's saying. That they've come so far in one area when they're so far behind her in others is fascinating. ]

So naturally, it's not something humanity has been able to invest a great deal of time or attention in in the last few years. There hasn't been enough of a substantial yield in the field, so it's kind of considered a sort of 'hobby' as far as economic budgeting is concerned.

From my understanding Earth has suffered quite a bit of interference from alien races in my universe. I suppose it's lucky that yours hasn't had the same problem.

[ Although it does mean you don't have Superman. ]

I've certainly heard a little about that. But, um, no, we haven't dealt with anything like that on my version of Earth.

We never dealt with it on Krypton either. Of course, if we had we might have been able to figure out space travel for ourselves.

Wouldn't that have made you the 'alien race'?

Everyone's an alien once they leave their own planet. I didn't come to Earth by choice, I just woke up there.

['That sounds like something out of a comic book'. He's not quite ignorant enough of social conventions to say it.]

Thus the lack of knowledge. I'm used to knowing things. And since I guess Earth is going to be my new home, it seemed like a reasonable place to start.

[He's pensive for a moment, and then he nods.]
