[ Jack looks slightly tired, as though he's been focusing on something for a while and is just worn out from it; in the corner of his screen he's rubbing the skin between his thumb and index fingers. But he still faces the camera with a smile and keeps his voice upbeat, lest give a bad impression on his intended audience. Baby Tooth is a jewel-toned glimmer of colour flitting around in the background. ]

So we've got some new arrivals after quite a while! I know it's a little weird to tell you "welcome" but I promise, I'm not being a jerk about it.

Pepper's not here now so, uhh... unless anyone objects I'm going to keep the welcoming committee together. Anyone who was on it before and still wants to be, or even if you've been here for a while but hadn't heard of it, it's basically what it sounds like. Helping the new people by showing them around, making sure they have everything they need. Most of us arrived missing people and items and, uh, sometimes usable clothes so... that sort of thing.

If you want to help out with it, tell me here, okay?

[ A pause, then he sobers a little. The second part is harder than the first. ]

It's not exactly coincidence since it's been going on for a bit, but there are also some other people who've left in the last few days. Merida and Hiccup are both gone, and maybe others. You can usually tell because their stuff is cleared out of their suites... if you've noticed anyone else, it's best to let others know.

[ He reaches for the button to turn off the feed, then seems to remember something else. ]

Um, if someone could make a text copy of all that, I'd really appreciate it. If I wrote all of that I'm not sure it'd be readable by the end.

[She'd learned her lesson the last time when she tried to comfort him over the loss of Pepper, and she'd barely even known these latest two. So, instead of saying anything on that matter, she chose to address a more pressing topic at hand:]

And I'm sorry they're both gone. [He didn't get a chance to meet either but he still feels bad when a friend's friend goes.]

[Booker's sort of torn right now, between going out and looking for Elizabeth, or staying put and hoping she contacts him via this contraption, now that he's put a message on the network. He doesn't understand how it works, but it doesn't seem too different from a telephone or telegraph, just... more people. And you can see them.

Okay, so maybe it is pretty different, but that's neither here nor there. Wary as he is of new places and strange people, Booker is at least grateful that folk here don't seem interested in killing him. And Jack's 'welcoming committee' seems much better than a near-drowning by baptism. So, since he seems open to questions, Booker has one for him.]

Where should a fella go to find work? Haven't seen any help wanted signs thus far.

There are some shops around that are open to hiring Foreigners -- that's what they call us -- and some people who've been here a while have opened their own businesses. What kinds of things do you like to do?

[ It's a purposeful choice of words, not 'what are you good at' because Jack feels that people have enough to deal with when arriving here that compiling a resume shouldn't be one of them. ]

Then again, there isn't really a lot in life that Booker enjoys. Whiskey is up there.]

Back home, I was a sort of private contractor. Did odd jobs for folks.
