[Genis is feeling all out of sorts. Yes, he'd been told that this massive headache and otherwise feeling completely lethargic and terrible would be gone by tomorrow, and so he would have considered putting this out there until then, but someone had told him that he looked somewhat familiar, that there was some older girl with the same hair colour. And while there were possibly a zillion people in all the infinite worlds out there that he didn't yet know about that had elder girls with a silver-white hair, the description sounded like a shoe-in for Raine. He had to make the post.

[But Genis looks just... terrible. He's tired and just feels just empty, not to mention hungry. You'll see a 12 year old's face just looking like he could use a really really nice sleep. And as a result, he's not afraid to be cranky. Granted, he's always unafraid to be cranky, but that's his excuse at the moment.]

I really hate to gripe about this first thing, but come on. I come straight from one world where I'm hated just for being a half-elf, and now I'm in a world where I'm hated just because I'm not from around here? Greeeeeat. You know, I'm beginning to wonder if there even is a world out there where people don't discriminate against other people for completely stupid reasons.

I mean, what'd you guys even do to the kedan anyway? Did you go out and kidnap everyone's kids or something? Because if it wasn't as big as something like that, I don't know what you could have possibly done to get them to hate you so badly.

[He says this with the most deadpan delivery ever. He then just shakes his head as if just in disbelief that he's already stuck in a world worse than the one he'd just left.]

Okay, at any rate, I don't know who exactly is out there listening to this, but... hey. I'm Genis Sage. I don't suppose any of you know someone named Raine, would you? Anyway, as for me, I guess I'm just a student at the moment, though I really haven't been attending school for a while since I've been travelling around my world for the past while with my sister and my friends. Despite that, I could probably still graduate at the top of my class even without having been diligent on all my homework last year. [He says this with a remarkable amount of pride despite his general malaise of feeling empty and tired.]

Anyway, I'd say that I'm looking forward to meeting all of you soon, but right now I'm much more interested in waiting for this massive headache to go away first. Though I'm told that's supposed to go away tomorrow, so that's one thing going my way.

...for somebody who 'hates' to gripe, that sure was a lot of griping going on.

[But, hey, she gets it. The kid--he definitely looked like a kid, from her perspective--was probably new. Who wouldn't want to grip on their first day?]

There are some herbs you can take, I think. If you know how to boil them into tea properly.

Hey, if you had the headache I have right now, you'd be griping plenty too.

[Of course, that's a completely separate issue, but Genis is totally find to use it as a temporary excuse in the short term.]

And tea? Give me a little credit. Tea's not hard to make at all, way easier than pescatore and paella, and even those aren't hard.

Not here, it's not. We're talking a little more than just tea bags and hot water; you have to actually measure out the ingredients of each herb and filter by hand.

But, hey, if you can manage that much, then there you go. There's a local healer around. I'm sure she'd have something for you.

If the only difficulty is measuring out things, then that's not going to be too much of a problem.

Though I'm guessing that the local healers aren't exactly charitable and just handing this stuff out for free, right?

Anyone else, and you'd probably be right. But the local healer is Milyn. She's...a little weird, but she's been more helpful than most people.

At worst, if you asked, she'd probably still give you a decent price for them.

So I'm guessing she's one of the few kedan here that actually likes us?

[Though in many respects, that was a low bar to jump over, and Genis knows it.]

I only ask because I'm taking the wild guess that the Gald I've got won't mean much to anyone here.

[A nod at the former question. More or less, yeah. It helped that she had history with the Foreigners. Knew what had gone on behind the scenes during that "missing" year.]

What's a Gald?

Well, I think I'll just hold off on that since it's going to go away in a few hours. I've had worse injuries before, really.

Gald was our unit of money. [He pauses to think about that.] I don't know the relative conversion rates or anything, but several tens of Gald would buy some decent food, a few hundreds a night at an inn, and thousands or tens of thousands would buy most weapons and armour.

[She couldn't even begin to guess how that would convert to (American) Dollars. Or Juulan.]

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and guess that's...not what the locals are looking for. Sorry.

Yeah, I figured. How does one even start to get money here? I mean, I've never ever actually been completely broke, at least without getting a steady allowance from my sister.

[From his sister? Huh. She had always been under the assumption it was the parent who gave the allowance. ...unless he didn't have one.]

You get it the same way you get it anywhere else. You work.

Options are kind of limited right now, but they're a lot better than when we first got back, believe me.

You mean you don't actually get most of your money by beating up monsters and finding buried treasure everywhere?

[And for once, Genis is actually being quite serious.]

[Substitute "monsters" for "metahuman criminals" and "buried treasure" with "weekly allowances until she was old enough to access her Trust Fund", and she was right there with him.]

That depends. Can you actually cook?

Oh, I certainly know a thing or two around the kitchen!

I had to, really. If I had depended upon my sister to cook everything as I was growing up, I would have died from food poisoning at least three times.

[Now there was also a familiar sentiment. Maybe not to the point of life or death, but many a nights had been spent fending for herself while Zatara had been off on a mission. Between celebrity life as a world-famous magician, and a prominent member of the Justice League, there was little time to spend on a home-cooked meal.]

Then I don't see why not.

You might have to ask around, but I'm sure there's somebody out there who needs an extra pair of hands in their kitchen.

Oh I'm sure I'm going to be turned away at half of them just for being a foreigner. And then half of the others because they won't even believe that I can actually cook as well as I do at my age.

But if I do find someone willing to hire me, it'd be doing what I love!

[At the first part, Zatanna nodded. Completely empathetic to that plight. At the latter part, however...she waved a dismissive hand in the air.]

When I was first brought here, I was only 14 myself. And I knew people even younger than that getting full-time work. I don't think they really care how old you are, so long as you can do the job.

[That will surprise Genis for more than one reason.]

But you think so? So many people from my world just assume that kids don't know how to do many things, so maybe I've got a chance after all.

[You know, once they get over that terrible foreigner aspect.]

And I think that's true of most worlds. Except we were all brought here for a reason, so they have to know we're not completely useless.

You've been here for two and a half years now? [Yikes.] That's kind of a long time to be away from home.

But is that how the emperor's spell works? Does that mean there's some sort of intelligence in the spell itself? That'd be kind of weird.

Maybe yes, maybe no.

It depends on the spell. And, to a degree, who exactly was casting it; let's just say the person in charge when I was brought here isn't the same person who's running things now.

But I thought that was what was so weird about the spell though, that it continued to work after the emperor Eshai guy died?

Well, first of all, Eshai was a girl.

And second...nobody ever said she had to be the one casting it.
