She’s tapping her chin a little thoughtfully, eyeing the camera] Okay, so I get the whole other realm, hi-you’re-on-a-turtle-and-also-there-are-computers thing. Which, weird – seriously, who expects the afterlife to be so high tech? Also, sorry about the possession thing, that must've sucked. But I have something a little more important to ask about right now.

[She leans back and gestures at herself. She’s wearing a green dress that, while it looks good on her, isn’t exactly appropriate for every day wear] Does anyone have clothes I could borrow? Pants, especially pants. You have no idea how long it’s been since I even saw a pair of jeans.

Other than that, does anyone know if there’s a dance club around here or something? I had a look around myself, but maybe someone who’s been here longer can help. There’s gotta be some place teenagers can go to let loose, right? [She winks, and reaches forward to turn off the camera when something else appears to occur to her]

Oh yeah! I’m A – Catty, I’m Catty. [She holds her hand up in a Vulcan salute] Greetings to my fellow inter-dimensional travellers. Especially those of you with pants.

That me talking about last days and the afterlife meant that I'm dead? [She is, she's just being a jackass] I don't know. It depends on what kind of dreams you have.

[She's about to make a teasing comment about having to play outside, because the kid does look pretty young, but something else occurs to her instead] Paint?

Or nightmares, to be more specific. [ then again, if her afterlife has dance clubs but no technology? his nightmare but maybe her dream come true. ]

Are you asking if I'm an artist or if they have paint here? [ for once he's not being purposely obtuse. ]

[She waves a hand easily] I don't have nightmares anymore. [Because she lived them.]

If they have paint! [There's a pause when she takes in the who set-up that is Nico di Angelo] Are you an artist?

Must be nice. [ so so dry. it should be envious but he doesn't have the energy. ]

Not even if my life depended on it. [ thankfully, it hasn't yet. ] I imagine so. They have to decorate this place and that would be my guess as to how, although, I wouldn't be the best person to ask. I haven't been around very long.

Not really.

[Catty wrinkles her nose at him, but it's more teasing than actually mad] House paint and art paint are so not the same thing. But I guess that gives me an excuse to explore more, anyway.

Grass is greener and all that. [ agreeing to disagree. if he could live with the things he tosses and turns and wakes up trying not to scream about just to get them over it, he would. ]

Why not? They both get the job done. If you absolutely had to, you could make it work.

Different folks, different strokes. [Wait, can she say that to a tiny teenager? MOVING ON.]

If I absolutely had to, sure. But... [She gives another shrug. She seems to be doing that a lot lately] It's been a really long time since I had a chance to paint. I'd like to do it right, if I can.

[ lbr as far as he's concerned she's talking about the strokes of a paint brush. ]

If it were a hobby of mine, I don't think I'd automatically settle either. [ who is he kidding?? he doesn't know the meaning of accepting something at face value. ] Art's universal. They might charge you an actual arm and a leg but if you dig around enough, you're bound to strike something.

[good, good.

She looks pleased with this conclusion] Exactly! [A nod, apparently unfazed by the thought of paying in limbs] That's a really good point, thanks.

[Catty tilts her head to one side a little, looking at the kid. He looks like the kind of teenager who could grow up to become a Follower, which might be what prompts her next question] What's a guy like you do for a hobby, anyway?

Hopefully, it doesn't go that far. [ he watches her curiosity blossom and has no idea what tangent she's following, so he bites. ] Like for fun?

[ h u h. ]

Travel, mostly. I don't use my down time for much else. [ he kind of threw fun out the window with his childhood. ]

[A snort] knowing my luck... [But that sounds too bitter for a girl who's supposed to be cheery. Catty laughs again, and it sounds natural] yes, fun. You know, that thing that kids are supposed to go crazy for?

[That only seems to make her curious] Travel? Aren't you like, twelve? How do you manage that?

Never heard of it. [ but he grins because sometimes laughter is contagious and he does know what fun is! he has it, in his own ways. now that he has time and there's only so many places to travel, he might have to get a hobby. ]

I'm older than twelve. [ much, much older! okay, so it's technically only a year since he's pretty sure how old he's supposed to and how old he actually is, is way too complicated. ] Anyway, it's just a number. You'd be surprised how easy is it to get around when you think you're an orphan. [ tact, none of it. ]

[A smile! Catty looks pleased with herself for having acquired this] Your poker face needs a little work, kid. It's cracking, uh, everywhere.

[That gets a Very Serious Nod from her] Right, right, my bad. How old, then? Twelve and three quarters? [She pauses for a second, but it's not because of the orphan comment. Or at least, not only] You're not about to tell me you're an eight hundred year old prince of western Europe, are you?

I'm fresh out of duct tape. [ but if she happens to have some on her. . . ]

Thirteen, bordering fourteen, actually. [ SO THERE. ] I was going to but then you had to go and blow it out of the water. You have to give me time to come up with a new cover now. [ s q u i n t i n g. ] Do you meet a lot of immortal royalty where you come from?

I'll see if I can hunt some down for you. Maybe some super glue?

Oh, bordering fourteen, I see. You're like, the Mexico to fourteen. [She laughs] Okay, but only five minutes! You have to think fast under pressure when it comes to fake identities. [She knows from experience] ...More than I ever expected I would. Does that qualify as a lot?
