So, I'm not... [A sigh as he runs a hand through his hair.]

I had never had to do any of these before, but it's like- people do deserve it, one of these. Right? Even if their names are said on the radio when they leave it feels impersonal. But at the same time it feels like I'm mourning them? Which I am not. I really don't want to do that since it's not like they died, they really didn't. [Frank's the one that did, because he happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time- even if he did have the best of companies with him to make sure he didn't harm anyone.]

They just went back home. And while that's not really a relief in some cases sometimes it is in this one now that we know we somehow manage to survive after everything goes to- well. And sometimes we just have to be glad they are there to fight their battles, even if... even if they will be missed.

[A pause.]

Percy Jackson and Leo Valdez are both gone.

Any promise, offer or favor they owed consider it mine. I obviously can't do a lot of the things Leo did when it comes to machines or things Percy did with sealife and water, and I wish I could do something about that. [He wishes he hadn't been the one to stay, not when Leo and Percy were the actually useful ones.]

But I will still do my best.

[Private to Milyn]

I haven't checked on you, sorry. I've been kind of busy in the clinic since I came back and. Well, I never liked coming up with excuses: I just thought I would finally check on you.

So.

What's up?

[It's Annabeth! A little less tired than she's been the last few months, but somehow a little more fidgety.]

Everyone knows we're basically here to fight that creature, right? I call him Mally, since saying his name is still dangerous unless properly warded. [A beat.] Thus far he's been impossible to kill, but not to defeat or pushback.

[She runs a hand through her hair, apparently not realizing she's just tugged out a handful of strands from her ponytail.] What I want to know is - what we know about that. About all the other times he's been stopped in the past.

It seems kind of stupid to keep hoarding it, since we all have a stake in what happens. [Hahaha that's funny Annabeth, with what she's potentially sitting on. Mages more powerful than Eshai and sketchy allies, how do they work??] People have been sacrificed to stop him before - Emperor Eshai's sister among them, to extend the life of another turtle, Asti's sister Sinbrilee. Mally was trapped in someone's body and torn to pieces at least once, too. If we need to stop him permanently, we need to know what works and what doesn't.

[Tapping her fingers absently on the desk in front of her rn.] About a year ago, when the turtle dove underwater, the barrier was breached by reanimated corpses - jiangshi - and it's more than likely Mally was responsible. Eshai believed so herself. The creature primarily works through manipulation and subtleness, rather than flash and spotlights. He might be laying low as of late, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's doing nothing.

[Maybe she just wants as many people as possible to know whatever they can, because the more people who can be proactive, the less she has to do the same. And maybe she wants to compare to what Eva's told her, too, before deciding how to go about dealing with it.]
bindsthedead: (art-lay them to rest)
[personal profile] bindsthedead
[When Sabriel's face shows up on the screen, it's even paler than normal, and the dark circles under her eyes are clearly visible.]

I need to know if anyone here has any knowledge of the Realm of Death in this world beyond what we were able to find out in Sinbrilee. [A pause.] Please. It will be of considerable help in dealing with the Enemy.

And for those of you who have arrived since it attempted to attack the turtle- do not underestimate it. Do not speak its name. It is every bit as dangerous as you were told it was, and possibly more. And it can corrupt people's minds- or possess them outright. And it is not going to be stopped by guns, or swords, or the simpler forms of magic. We must find a way to destroy or bind it, or it may follow us back to our own worlds, and do there what it has already done here.

We need to keep the turtles safe. They're- they're babies, and they represent this world's best hope for recovery. Aside from the turtle whose shell we stand on, they are the last of their kind.

What happens to the dead here?

[ out of everything, it's his most pressing question about this place. sure he's had it up to here with being unwillingly trapped anywhere, he's down a 40 ft statue, and there's a million other questions rapidly milling about in his head, but the most concerning thing right now is that lack of a certain presence — one that's almost become a staple in his life. try as he might, he can't seem to sense the underworld, which being a son of hades, is reason enough to worry. (plus there's a distinct lack in his ability to just shadow travel out of here, which he suspects might tie into the whole thing).

making a post hadn't been his first option, but since finding his suite hadn't exactly brought any new information, he'd turned to the console as a resort. ]

Let's skip the formalities and the obvious. [That 'obvious' reference being related to Tu Vishan coming to a stop and all powers reduced to nothing.] Time for you Foreigners to step up to bat.

[A breath in, a breath out; it's no easy to speak about what is going on.]

It's name is Malicant and it's here. Tu Vishan is too sick, too fast; the only thing strong enough to do that is Malicant. We've seen it before and it wasn't easy to push back. Killed too many, came too close with the rest, but we did it. For a time. I don't have more than that. This thing takes whatever form it wants and uses whatever means it fancies to destroy. That's it. That's what I know.

[He focuses solely on the screen.]

I trust you with the name, but don't spread it around. We don't need widespread panic in the kedan -- it'll only make your jobs harder and its power stronger.

[That's right: Your jobs. Its power.]

This won't be glamorous, but if Malicant went about its business openly, then we wouldn't be stuck here. [He'd have personally gutted it if it did. Twice.] I've got a handful of leads -- [A wry, bitter smile.] conspiracies, you'll think -- and I need you to follow-up on them. Track down the source and uncover what's wrong, then fix it. That's why you're here, so stop whining about having nothing to do.

Want to help? Report in at the precinct station at the heart of Keeliai and tell them I sent you. Bring a team or you'll be put on one, then briefed on a lead I need you to look into. Do whatever you need to get the job done.

It's a long shot, but it's all we got. [He reaches for the console's controls, then pauses.] And first one to say I hid it ought to save us all the time and just jump off the turtle. You know what I do -- anything more, and you'd think it could be predicted. It can't. [He kills the feed.]

[She falls silent again, as she tries to figure out if she should ask about her friends.]

I’m looking for my friends if they’re here. [The way she says it makes it clear that she’s torn about whether or not she really wants to know if her friends are or aren’t in Tu Vishan, but she covers it up by moving on to the next matter of business and making her voice shift to a more chipper tone. The image however, continues to hold a certain amount of concern and the crinkle between her brows still hasn’t gone away although it isn’t so much confusion anymore as it is worry about what could be happening at home without her.]

And maybe a job, as I’ve been told I will need to find one in order to be a productive member of the community. I’m good with horses and art. I hope those are useful to someone here, but I won’t mind jobs like cleaning or organizing either, they were regulars on the duty roster back home.

[Deep breath, exhale]

Alright so, we're focusing on training without powers and stuff- which is an awesome idea, and I offer my help to anyone who would take training from a teenager.

But maybe we should also be wondering why? Is it really because the turtle is sick or is... someone [hint hint]... trying to make us as vulnerable as possible? If that's the case we should really be getting ready for an attack.

When I arrived here, I assumed the barrier had been meant to keep us in and that the Emperor controlled it. By now, I think it's obvious that that's not the case. The barrier is meant to keep things out. When Tu Vishan dove underwater, the barrier stayed up and held back the jingashi. But they broke through and, judging by the kedans' reactions, that had never happened before. In fact, I asked around. It hasn't ever happened before, not until lately.

Point two: a satellite falls out of the sky, breaks through the barrier, and lands on Tu Vishan. First of all, this suggest that there is-- or was-- some kind of long-distance communication technology. It also suggests that the barrier is weakening even more. Before, it took the stress of thousands of jingashi to weaken the barrier. Now all it takes is debris. Big debris, sure, but decidedly less stress than the jingashi.

As for the Emperor, it's possible she's contributing power to maintain the barrier, but it doesn't originate from her. Tu Vishan is the one maintaining it.

I know everyone's concerned about what's coming, but we can't let that distract us completely from the big picture. My point is that we need to slow down and rethink what we think we know. Since the barrier is our first line of defense against any outside invasion, let's start there. What do we know, what do we think we know, and how can that help us?
