[ The video turns on to a view of a man’s face, and those observant enough to notice nitpicky details might realize that this is a man who’s familiar with and comfortable using strange bits of technology. There’s no fear in his eyes, no outward confusion or panic. He looks calm and in control, and when he speaks, he sounds like it, too. ]

Hello. My name’s Steve Rogers and I just recently arrived from a city called New York. I was debriefed about the situation and I wanted to offer my help to anyone who needs it.

[ He pauses for a moment as he collects his thoughts. These days, it’s not often that he goes somewhere that people aren’t at least slightly familiar with who he is. Providing a brief resume is a somewhat novel experience. ]

I’ve been a soldier for a long time, but I’m also good with my hands. Construction, farming, hunting, good old-fashioned heavy lifting, I can help with that. I can speak a number of languages, too, if anyone needs translations done. I know I’m new, but I want to pull my weight. So if you know anyone who might need a hand with something, let me know.

[ Offering a faint smile, he gives the camera a short nod. ]

That the turtle's sick, the food's being rationed, and the natives are starting to dislike us. Have you found out why any of this is happening? Is it because of what fell from the sky before I arrived?

Yup, that about sums it up. I don't think it's because of the satellite though. That happened after the turtle was already sick. [She's still not sure what that was about] Apparently it's all because of some....thing we're supposed to fight. I don't really know much about it.

Then we're not the cause of the sickness like some believe? We're here to combat it?

I don't think we're the cause but, again, I don't know a whole lot. Everything I've heard points at something else being the cause though and us being here to fight it. No idea what "it" is, because apparently it's not something the people in charge want to be open about. Which is just always the way it goes, isn't it?

[ He laughs quietly under his breath. One humorless chuckle that says it all. That is how it always goes. ]

So we do what we're trained to do. Just like we're back home. We'll figure it out. We always do.

[It's a really shitty situation but Carol just can't help the smile the spreads across her face at Steve's little speech. Same old Cap]

You seriously have no idea just how happy I am that you're here, Steve.

Then that makes my being here worth it. What can I do to help make sure you stay that happy?

[ Aside from not leaving. Steve doesn't have any intention of leaving without his friends. If it's up to him, he's in this for the long haul. ]

Well, for a start, you could try to keep Bucky from shooting me. [Not that she thinks he actually will and it wouldn't hurt if he did but still] But since I realize that's probably asking a lot, I'll take you telling me where you are right now.

Water District, 1D. [ A beat. ] Why does Bucky want to shoot you?

Needless to say, I'm coming to see you. [Be prepared to be hugged, Steve] Because he's tiny and prickly. Does he need a reason beyond that?
