Video;
[ The video turns on to a view of a man’s face, and those observant enough to notice nitpicky details might realize that this is a man who’s familiar with and comfortable using strange bits of technology. There’s no fear in his eyes, no outward confusion or panic. He looks calm and in control, and when he speaks, he sounds like it, too. ]
Hello. My name’s Steve Rogers and I just recently arrived from a city called New York. I was debriefed about the situation and I wanted to offer my help to anyone who needs it.
[ He pauses for a moment as he collects his thoughts. These days, it’s not often that he goes somewhere that people aren’t at least slightly familiar with who he is. Providing a brief resume is a somewhat novel experience. ]
I’ve been a soldier for a long time, but I’m also good with my hands. Construction, farming, hunting, good old-fashioned heavy lifting, I can help with that. I can speak a number of languages, too, if anyone needs translations done. I know I’m new, but I want to pull my weight. So if you know anyone who might need a hand with something, let me know.
[ Offering a faint smile, he gives the camera a short nod. ]
Thanks for your time.

[Victor accepts the glass with a nod. When Steve asks that question, Victor tilts his head curiously.]
Well, it was training I guess. It changed a lot as things went by but I got training in everything from rescuing trapped people from burning buildings to evacuating civilians from the area of a Hulk rampage and more. Was there something specific about it you wanted to know?

[ He gives him a small, reassuring smile. It's not an inquisition and he's not here to pass judgment on Victor's past experiences. ]
I was wondering if it was enough to make you feel comfortable joining the Avengers.
no subject
I...sure. Yes it does. I know I've got more to learn but I'm ready to help out where I'm needed.
no subject
[ Not even him. Especially not Steve.
It’s no joke. The only smile Steve gives him is one of gentle encouragement. ]
There are some team veterans here. And some new recruits too. So you won’t be alone and what training you need, or you’d like to get, I’ll make sure you have. When we get back home, I can get you an ID card. If you want it, that is.

[Vic's grinning now. He can't quite believe this has happened. It's one thing to finally get to be an X-man...but this is the Avengers. Earth's Mightiest Heroes! Of course the fact that he and all the others were 'demoted' back to 'just a student' helps take the shine off the X-Men, not to mention the rest of his history with the mutant team.]
Who're the other recruits, if it's okay for me to ask?
no subject
[ Steve won't always have the answers, but he'll do his best when he's asked something. ]
So far, I've spoken with Nightcrawler and Rockslide. They're on board when the call goes out.
no subject
That sounds great. I promise Santo is a lot more effective than he might seem.
no subject
[ It's that kind of commitment to each other, that watching out for each other, that tells Steve he made the right choice. ]
I'm just glad you both said yes.
no subject
[Vic just smiles.]
He's the Power Man to my Iron Fist. We make a good team.
[Cap is one of the few people Victor will outright admit this to without even a little playing around. Santo's his best friend and he would want them both on the team.]

[ Humans and mutants, friends and teammates. It's not enough just to build a team. He's trying to build a family. A new way of life. One of acceptance and understanding. And it starts right here. Here and with the team he was starting to put together back home before he woke up in this place. ]
Make sure you let him know we talked. [ Steve smiles, trying to make it obvious he's making a joke. ] Otherwise he'll be calling me, reading me the riot act.
no subject
[Victor grins with the joke.] I will. I'll let him know as soon as he stops celebrating that he got asked first when we get back.
no subject
[ And he is. From what he's seen of Victor and Santo, he's made a good decision. ]
If he gets on your nerves too much, remind him that Avengers should be humble.
[ Well, Steve's humble. The rest of them, not so much. ]
no subject
Telling Santo to be more humble is like telling the Human Torch to be more snowy. [He grins again.] I can handle Santo though.

I have some recon to do. A few leads to check out for more information on what's going on here. When I know more, I'm going to call us all together, make sure that everyone's up to speed on what we know. Keep an eye on the console for the call, okay?
no subject
[Vic nods quickly.] Right. I'll keep an eye on it. Is there anything else I can do?

You and me both. Good luck out there. Don't hesitate to call me if you need me.
no subject
I won't.
[As soon as Steve closes the door, Vic will be scurrying up the wall to leap rooftops.]
WAHOO!
[Yes, he is one happy lizard-mutant.]
