[ Okay. He has practiced answering other people's transmissions. The machines, however foreign, are no longer a complete mystery to him and this really can't wait any longer. He's been too lax as is, really.

Still, there is an awkward stiffness to the way he addresses the network. All too aware that he's being watched and maybe he should've gone for voice, but that lacks a connection between people instead. You people and your technowonders. ]

It's come to my attention that I, uh... have some catching up to do.

I'm looking for anyone with experience in the medical profession past the year 1790 that would be willing to bring me up to speed, in a way. As this would be a great favor to ask, I am of course willing to compensate through the exchange of knowledge or... something else, should that not be sufficient.

There are numerous doctors here as well. It depends on how much you're looking or willing to learn.

Ideally I would like to learn as much as possible, but for starters emergency care would be sufficient. Since my arrival I've learned that some of the methods we use in my time has since been deemed unnecessary or even harmful to the patient.

I would like to avoid doing damage simply by lacking the necessary knowledge of medical advances.

That sounds suspiciously like altruism.

Maybe so.

I've devoted my life to science. Any personal gain I get from furthering my skills as a surgeon would certainly benefit others first and foremost, but I fail to see the fault in that.

Why science, in your age?

Not always. It has been an excuse for cruelty, inhumanity and atrocity equally as often. Perhaps moreso.

Naturally... but surely not as much cruelty, inhumanity and atrocity as blind faith in the church has been responsible for?

There is no greater or more widely endorsed justification for murder than religion. I concede your point.

The problem with religion is that it is always a tool for the unrighteous.

You speak the truth. It's easy to hide your ill intentions behind God's word, even more so if you have a religious community who depends on you for their spiritual well-being. Few dare go against a man who can shame you in front of the entire city or even condemn you to hell.

That is not something I hear often. I will take it as a compliment.

That much I've gathered. I can't even imagine a society where you are the norm for the women. [ Actually meant as a compliment, no matter how it sounds. ]
