Why do you teach magic to people? And how?

At first it was just a way for people to defend themselves- not every enemy can be stopped with steel, and after what I've learned about our purpose here, I intend to train as many willing students as I'm capable of.

As for how- there's a baptism, and from there it's mostly a matter of memorizing and employing different marks.

It's not new, and it isn't exactly a religion. Think of it more as an- I suppose you could call it an initiation? It's necessary to draw on the Charter's power.

Occasionally my students and I drink tea after lessons, but I don't want any of them to try using magic while they're intoxicated.

Why? I'm being careful about who I teach. [Well, she's trying.] and there's dangerous things out there. I want people to be able to protect themselves if something like the spectre or worse attacks Keeliai, and magic isn't just for fighting- I've been using it to help the plants in the hydroponics garden too.

How do you know your magic isn't one of the bad things out there? And how can you teach people control that fast? Learning any kind of weapon takes discipline, focus, and practice.

Because I won't let people abuse it, and I'm only teaching them simple spells to start with.

I'm not giving people free access to my spellbooks unless I'm certain they can be trusted and won't hurt themselves- and if you mean that they might hurt others, then I've already had that discussion with Amon.

That I'd deal with any of my students that abused their abilities- with his help, if I needed it, and that he wouldn't attack me again. [Also she sealed one of his powers, but doesn't feel the need to mention that.]

We had a disagreement, but managed to resolve it amicably enough, after I restricted the use of one of his abilities. [It's a formal, evasive answer.]

After baptizing them? Well, it's mostly a matter of memorizing marks and learning how to use them- memorization and practice, with some work on the theory behind it all.

Well I generally start with simple spells- conjuring light or lighting candles. All magic is based on memorizing symbols, pulling them out of the flow of the Charter, and then signing or speaking them to produce an effect.
