[Costigan is in his own suite. He looks wary, as if he hasn't slept well for days. Someone paying a lot of attention might notice some scabs on his knuckles, his hands gesturing as he speaks. He looks about the same as he usually does otherwise, his voice a familiar mix of nonchalance and discomfort simultaneously.]

What Banner said is true. I'm out now and I'm fine. It's fine.

[ Jack hears the tone but it registers with less impact than his present level of concern so he forges ahead, still being a little raw around the edges from recent events and disappearances. ]

No. The kedan are supposed to be past being allowed to pick fights with us and get away with it! After all we just--!

[There's a long pause before Costigan finally switches over to video again. He's frowning, but not angry. He looks directly at the camera for a moment, then at the black screen. When he speaks, it's deliberate and careful.]

He didn't pick a fight.

[ Jack's voice calms slightly when Costigan's loses its harsh edge. He wishes more than ever that the man could see him, sure that his words alone don't convey what he's trying to say. ]

The last time you told me something might happen to you, you made me promise I'd take a message to Kyle. You weren't just worried something was going to happen then, you were planning for it. Then all of a sudden and in the middle of everything else going on with Evandau's teams, Bruce lets everyone know you're arrested? How did you not think that was going to worry your friends?

That first problem's taken care of. It was a one time thing, meeting a guy to ask him about the business he was trying to hide. I couldn't be sure how he'd react and I was worried that he could make me disappear. That's why I gave you that message. He's gone now.

[Costigan sighs, rubbing a hand over his eyes. The scabs and bruises on his knuckles are clear with this action, an obvious sign of a fight. He's not even thinking about that.]

This has nothing to do with anything else. I was stupid and I paid the price for it. Nothing wrong with that.

[ Jack notes the cuts and bruises and oddly... the rest of the tension drains out of him. Costigan is fine, Jack trusts him and the spirit can't exactly argue with the concept of taking ones lumps when they're earned. ]

Okay.

... you want some ice for those?

[Costigan looks confused for a second, then glances at the back of his hand to realize what Jack means. He can't help a small smile, though it disappears a second later.]

I want to know what you're doing about the heat.

It's all right now. When... Tony left, he left behind something he was working on, kind of like an air conditioner but a lot colder. Bruce got it working and put it in my suite in Wood so it wouldn't hurt the tree.

[ Because priorities!! ]

And Damian's been working on making me something portable. It's a little harder to describe, I can pull the cold off of it. I won't be able to go out sunbathing or anything but... at least I won't be all cooped up for the next few months.

I'm glad you're okay.
