( 'Trapped' was a word that Joan was not particularly pleased to hear. Never, in all the cases that she has worked, did being trapped have a good outcome. Victims were trapped. If she were a victim - if all these people were victims - who were they a victim of? What was the motivation behind it all? )

Look, I just got here and thought I'd ask a few things on here.

( She hadn't wanted to ask the others that brought her to where she'd be staying. Usually trusting her instincts, she had been patient about getting more helpful answers. )

Could anyone point me in the direction of the law enforcement around here? Or any type of hospital for that matter?

( Best to start with what she knew best. Getting to see how people were treated when they broke the law or if they were injured might prove to be useful. )

At least at first, yeah. They are weirdly lenient with some things and super strict with their own weird rules? I almost got arrested because I was wearing shocks the the third day of the month once.

Seems like most agree the clinic is really valuable to people here. Maybe more than the services provided by the kedan.

I...( it's always difficult to explain when people ask. what's the short explanation of 'yes, i was a surgeon but then i made a mistake that cost someone their life and then worked as a sober companion for a while'? ) It's complicated. I used to be but I'm not anymore. I'm not licensed to practice here anyways, so I don't know how much help I'd be. ( if that was a thing that she should be concerned about. )

I think this is the first time I've heard someone describe their working situation as 'it's complicated', isn't that usually reserved but not-dating-but-almost there?

Anyway, I'm pretty sure as long as you proof your abilities you won't need license of any kind. It'd be hard to prove credentials in here anyway.

( joan couldn't help but smile. she certainly couldn't be angry with him for laughing. firstly, because he reminded her of something like a muscular panda bear. secondly, her career was rapidly shifting the past few months so she couldn't help but stand by her statement. )

Trust me, sometimes I feel like it might be worse than that. ( though she hadn't had the best luck with men recently either but that's a whole other story. )
