Greetings. I am Commander Spock of the USS Enterprise, a Starfleet contingent of the United Federation of Planets. I understand that we are temporally isolated as well as spatially displaced and that this is not a subdivision of any one possible multiverse, neither a pocket dimension of any one universe, but a unique quantum singularity linking many and each possible variation thereof. If others here have scientific findings of this nature, I pre-emptively extend my gratitude in the event of any information being divulged.

Spock pauses thoughtfully, glancing away, and a single slender brow arches when he looks back; there are likely a great deal of customs to be observed from numerous new species and races, none of which he seeks to offend. ]

I will attempt to do so. [ Taking all this in, he hazards another academic guess based off her emotive responses. ] Are you a friend of Captain Kirk?

[ The distinction clearly holds some weight with him. ]

[Clara blinks at the question. It was always hard for her to determine what she meant to other people. But with Jim it's different; they have a bond and she knows it.]

Yeah, I am. He's very important to me.

[dow]

I am gratified to hear it. What purpose do you serve?

[ It's asked carefully, struggling to understand. Spock's role to Jim is ... undefined, as of yet, but he knows he cares for him beyond many others. ]

Pardon me, I am unaccustomed to the human desire for social acceptance, my captain is in the process of enlightening me. Vulcans are informed of their roles in relation to one another so there is no confusion.

[parallels]

[Her eyebrows shoot up, but she seems far more amused than cross. She waves a hand.]

I'm no stranger to alien/human cultural confusion, surprising as it might seem. No offense taken.

[Still she tilts her head at the question and grins a little.]

Still it's a bit hard to define, you know. I make tea, I cook dinner, we explore together, exchange clever comments, we read together. Think you might just have to tag along for a bit and figure it out on your own.

[ That sounds like a very worthwhile relationship in his opinion and sounds not a little like a fraction of what his mother did for Sarek while Spock was growing up. ]

Your compassion toward the captain is appreciated. I admire your commitment in developing it further and would not be opposed to joining in with one of these activities at a later date.

[ Official Vulcan stamp of approval to continue. ]

I'm First Officer approved then? Glad to hear it. Was getting a bit nervous there.

[She replies with the tone of finding the whole process very amusing. But she's definitely pleased. She knows what Spock means to Jim and that his approval is important.]

And dunno if you have a preference for tea, exploration, or clever jabs when it comes to activities but generally it involves all of the above.

[ After a moment's pause where he carefully considers the question, he nods slowly. ]

Tea would be acceptable.

Brilliant. Can't promise there won't be any clever banter but we can hold off exploring and just do tea. Has to be Darjeeling though. Jim hates Earl Grey.

If you would permit it, I will endeavor to find the correct spices to approximate a Vulcan beverage for you to sample.

[ He'll tone down the heat, though. ]

[parallels]

Never mind permit, I'd encourage it. Whenever I visit a new planet, I always have to try the food. Especially the tea. Or whatever they have that's like tea. A surprising amount of aliens make tea. It's brilliant.

[She grins.]

What's it like then? The Vulcan beverage?

[dow]

On my planet, it was easily brewed from a particular plant. For the past year, however, I have been substituting it with Terran ingredients.

[ Along with plomeek soup, which he really does miss a lot as far as meals go. ]

Yeah? Should I ask what Terran spices or let it be a surprise?

[She's trying to imagine what sort of spices would be similar to an alien plant when mixed together.]

[dow]

The latter would prove more gratifying, I believe.

[ And it's his trade secret, shh. ]

[parallels]

Agreed. Definitely ought to be a surprise.

It's a plan then. Tea, Vulcan tea, and whatever other madcap ideas come to mind.

Why would headwear provoke hysteria?

[ Because sometimes Spock is the smartest guy in the room and then, at others, he doesn't know wtf is happening with paraphrasing. ]

[parallels]

[Clara just stares for a few moments as she isn't quite getting the sticking point of confusion before it clicks and she laughs before covering her mouth.]

Just an expression. It'll be our minds coming up with ridiculous ideas.
