It was a bluff intended to thwart whatever the god might be trying to do before it got too far, even though he knows that Loki isn't going to be cowed by him. He was hoping that bringing it up would deter him, like taking the element of surprise away from a cat.

But Loki called his bluff and Tony is left scowling.]
