She was nothing but a disrespectful cur, and the news of her death has left him elated to say the least. When the feed turns on, he's sipping a hot cup of tea (pinky extended), of what type is anyone's guess, but he looks amused as ever.]

I say the bitch got what was comin' to her.

[He takes another long sip. He feels no need to disclose who, when it's probably obvious to anyone with a working think pan.]

Just goes to show that maybe there is some modicum a justice in this place.

[Clara sighs. Honestly, she feels bad for the kid. Troll life sounds pretty lonely and miserable, not to mention difficult and depressing.]

What does it take for a troll to feel sympathy?

[It really is. Their society tries to breed sociopaths because they make better killing machines, and Eridan being what hue he is, is expected to be the cruelest of them all.]

Typically somethin' inwolwin' quadrants, beyond that, if you bleed a fuckin' ounce a it, you're better off dead.

Not for trolls. It's standard. Can't be a galactic conqueror if you got a bleedin' pumpbiscuit.

[he sounds so blase about this, but he's also used to humans thinking ill of their culture, so he can't even find the energy to get offended over it right now.]

I suppose. Still it seems like a lot of pressure. I mean, I've seen people try to take over the galaxy, it's not exactly an easy feat.

[She shrugs. She doesn't mean to be insulting but she feels sorry for him.]

We already got--had a good portion of the galaxy conquered, we're really fuckin' skilled at what we do. An' it is a lot a pressure, but that just weeds out the weak and suchlike.

[He'd be pretty offended if she expressed as much to him, he doesn't need sympathy over this. He knows he could be an amazing conqueror, he's got the discipline, the noble goals, and hey, he's pretty good at telling his conscience to go fuck its annoying self too! Fancy that.]

That sorta strain is necessary to be successful in this sorta thing. I know it's hard for you humans to understand.

I think it's perfectly understandable, really. Like you said, society weeds out the week so only the strong survive. Some humans think that way too. Survival of the fittest, it's called. But generally, we'd like to think that everyone has something to contribute even if they're not the strongest.

[She's intrigued though by the use of "had" considering in her experience anyone who tries to conquer a galaxy gets stopped eventually.]

The weak are generally used as slawes or fodder, those a noble blood or higher who choose to show themselwes as bein' weak tend to either get executed or exiled. If we got those with too much sympathy in positions a power, they might switch sides, might get some of us killed, etcetera. But I am glad that some a you humans got some sense to you.

[Sadly, Eridan is part of the reason the word 'had' was used. The Alternian Empire would have still been going strong, but alas.]

They're definitely the minority, believe me. [Nope. No sense in that.]

So what happened then? Why didn't you manage to take over the galaxy?

[He lets out a long suffering sigh.]

A group a--[He hesitates to call them friends] companions an' I played a game that had uniwerse destroyin' consequences, and thus we wiped out our entire race in a single night, leawin' the few of us to go on as the sole surwiwors of our species.

[He doesn't like admitting this much, he doesn't like the fact that they brought on the genocide of their entire race. Sure, he's got himself some NOBLE genocidal goals, or had them at least, but that was different. He didn't want the whole species dead.]

[She emits a low breath that she wasn't sure she was holding. She wasn't really sure what she expected him to say. She'd expected something had happened, something bad. But that this kid and his friends were the source of it all? That was all little unexpected.]

That's a lot to deal with.

[He shrugs, trying to play it off like it isn't a big deal, despite the fact it kind of is. Most of his friends gained a lot by the fall of their race in a way: freedom from the shackles their society has placed on them due to their blood color, and while he had his own, bejeweled and cased in gold, he didn't see it that way.]

I'm well past it by now.

Sometimes just time helps quite a bit with things like that.

[Though she can't imagine it fixes everything. Ten years later and she still mourns her mother. She can't imagine how it must be to lose your entire race. Even if they sound awful.]

[It doesn't, not even close. He's still pretty sore about it, even if he tries to act contrary. And Eridan really loved their race, but then again, what else did he really know than their way of things? It isn't like he had ample alternatives, and by now the alternatives just seem stupid and foreign and maybe a little bit frightening in that unknown sort of way. Easier to reject and just embrace what he knows.]
