[The figure hunched over in front of the feed is: a turtle, green, wearing a blue bandana around his head, and brandishing two swords over his shell. But he isn't the same Leonardo as the one these people must know. His fingers are steepled in front of his face, covering a good portion of his mouth, and his hard gaze is locked forward. Behind him stands a second turtle; shorter, stockier, his mask a dark red, and also very much not smiling.]

If you're seeing this message, it's because you know L - [the slightest pause, his knuckles tightening over his face before dropping from in front of his face to rest flat on the desk] Leo. We're cousins of his, and we... have some bad news. If you would let us, we'd like to meet you face-to-face.

[Being too excited about having Team Avatar here, Korra is actually up this late playing mahjong when this feed comes in. Instantly she switches on her custom encryption.]

How bad is it and which suite? [Already half out of her chair, Korra's grabbing a first aid kit packed with bandages and purified water from the clinic she keeps on stand by.

She's healed one turtle before, but now she's fully prepared to help Leo; whatever his condition may be.]

[That is some nice encryption there. Leo might have to get in on that action sometime. But for now, he hesitates, his gaze sliding away from the feed with a grimace. It's a thoughtful action, but... out of all of his cousin's friends, Korra might be the hardest one to break the news to.]

Yours. [With a tired sigh, he looks back at the screen.] It's a different kind of news.

[A different kind of bad news isn't what Korra wants to hear. Whatever it is, it's not going over the network and she can only give a pensive nod.]

I'll be waiting. [Patience and Korra don't mix normally, and right now it's got her gut twisted in a knot. After a moment she cuts the feed and does just that; wait.]

[Toph's kind of used to Turtle-Sifu coming in the dark at this point, so no big deal there. Since she can't see the video, though, she can't see both turtles on the screen.]

[Her voice stays even, calm. Though his tone bothers her, no sense getting worked up about anything until she knows what's going on.]

Sure. I'll leave the window unlocked.

Just watch for the lemur, okay?

[A wordless nod of acknowledgement and a cut of the feed would normally be his only response, but of course, that wouldn't work here - so he takes a slow, quiet breath instead.]

Right. Thanks.

What happened, is he okay?

[WOW INSTANT PROTECTIVE CAPTAIN INSTINCTS ARE GO.]

He's... [On his way home. Growing up. Going to become the grand hero like he always wanted to be; perhaps a bit too much. Then again, what else would a kid surrounded by heroes want? Leonardo doesn't know much about Kirk, if anything at all, but he knows that his younger self held the man in very high regard.]

He'll be fine. [It's sad, but fond. Also, cryptic nonsense. It helps him cope okay. He smiles thinly and gives a single shake of his head.] But we'd like to talk in person, if you'll have us.

[He owes the Little Ninja no less.]

[Wow no this is entirely too cryptic for him and even though he knows this is a member of Leo's family - which curbs his temper - he doesn't budge.]

'Fine' has a variable definition. I don't have a problem meeting in person, but I'm not going to let you hold me in suspense over what may or may not have happened to someone I care about.

[Leo's teeth clench, but he manages to keep his cool. It doesn't surprise him that Kirk won't accept such an ambiguous answer - from a complete stranger, who would? Leo respected this man, which means Leonardo is inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. Besides, Leo has seen far ruder boldness from people who were only worried about the ones they cared for.]

He isn't sick or injured. No harm has come to him - this I swear to you. [His gaze flits downward and to the side.] The news we have to share... it has to do with something else entirely.

[He doesn't like making concessions at the best of time, but Leo gets a terse, sharp nod.]

Fine. Where?

[He folds his hands again, head tipping in acquiescence.]

Wherever you would like.

There's a place in Wood Sector, this spot that's been clearcut near the old statue of a kirin. Work for you?

[He considers this for a moment.]

Sure.

Then I'll see you there.
