I knew I’d get this thing on eventually. All it it needed was a few swift kicks to help it along.

[Hawke looks rather smug with himself right now. Despite the crash course given to him, of which he may have zoned out of once or twice, he understands this console about as much as he does magic. The fact he got it working on his own means a lot to him.]

Alright, from what I hear this place is in need of heroes and the like. So much so in fact that they’ve started kidnapping people right off the street. Now I don’t mean to criticize your emperor, but that’s exactly what I’m going to do. Generally it’s considered good manners to ask someone for help instead of just grabbing them by their short and curlies and just dragging them off somewhere.

[He wags his finger in a very ‘you should be ashamed of yourself’ manner.]

Maker, at least people in Kirkwall gave me the illusion of choice before asking me to do something stupid and dangerous. They usually pay me too.

[When he sighs it’s utterly exaggerated.]

Oh well, no use in complaining I suppose.

[Of course that doesn’t mean he’s actually going to stop anytime soon.]

Since I’m here I may as well play along. Chances are this is all some kind of Fade...dream...thing, so what’s the worst that can happen? Besides the possibility of demonic possession.

[Hawke closes his eyes and just rubs his forehead for a moment.]

Of course, why would I even think my luck has improved. That's just silly.

[When he looks back at the screen he doesn't appear to be worried, just tired.]

At least you're honest. That's better then what I get from most.

[He sort of shrugs and gives the usual grin.]

I always feel that a little honesty here and there can do some good. It just depends on the confession.

[And he has some things he is definitely keeping to himself...like the concept of vessels.]

On the subject of what you were speaking of earlier, there are jobs around here that allow you to earn some spending money.

If only every kind of crazy felt the same way.

[At least he knows to watch out for you now so thanks for that bro.]

I'll keep that in mind. Suppose people here wouldn't be too happy with me if I jumped back into the smuggling business.

Too many varieties of crazy out there, but it keeps things entertaining.

[Balthazar is pretty sure that is how most people feel after meeting him. Call it a curse or a blessing.]

Personally I would find smuggling to be quite the lucrative business no matter what anybody said. I'm not really sure what you would smuggle though.

I'm fairly certain I've met them all at this point. Even made friends with one or two of them.

[Because he can't really call all of his friends sane.]

Wax maybe? Think how much they must go through to keep this shell shiny.

Always nice to have a few of the crazy ones to remind you about sanity...or lack thereof in the world. Best to stay friends with a few. You have the right idea.

[All sane friends would be boring.]

That's a good starting point. Smuggling beneficial things like that might earn you a positive image here...whatever that might get you.

That's what I like to tell myself.

[Too bad that doesn't make it true.]

Well, I'd assume generating a positive image would reap positive consequences. And probably paint another target on my back but I've already collected so many why stop now.

[Balthazar shrugs casually.]

I can understand the whole target on the back thing. If it's your thing then it is your thing. You can start a collection for that and soon you have a lovely little reputation. In a place like this where people come and go, it doesn't really matter.

[Hawke had a snappy retort until Balthazar mentioned that last bit.]

Wait, come and go? Just where do they go exactly?

[Tossing a wrench or two to make the conversation interesting is something of a pastime...sometimes. Or not at all.]

Well...I knew somebody that has been here twice. I honestly have no idea where he went off to. Trust me when I say that I would know if he was still here and he isn't. Do they get sent home? I haven't figured that much out yet.

Why didn't you just ask where he went when he came back? Seems simple enough to me.

[Because things are always that simple. Right?]

[Oh, if only! Because everything went so well in their world before they came here. Balthazar frowns.]

He was not the same version and there is...a bit of a history there. We weren't exactly on friendly terms the last I saw him.

Not the same version? Maker, we're not talking about evil twins here are we?

[He's seen one too many plays and books about that.]

Not so much evil twins as they are from different periods in time. You could be here one moment and disappear then some other you shows up from another point in your timeline. It seems awfully exhausting to do that if you ask me.

[Oh, there is so much about why this place bothered to pull somebody in one moment, got rid of them, then pulled in new ones that did not remember a thing about being here.]

[Hawke just stares for a moment before he begins rubbing his forehead.]

That sounds completely overcomplicated so I'm just not going to label that as weird and not think about it for now.

[He's got more pressing stuff to worry about anyway.]

[The staring. They get that a lot in this place. Goes with the territory.]

That's probably the best way to go about dealing with this. There are far more important things to worry about, hmm? Getting out of here on your own is out of the question for sure.

No, apparently I have to help save the world first. At least that's something I'm used to.

[Well, maybe not such a grand scale as saving the world but he's good at saving things...for the most part.]

There seems to be an abundance of those types around here. You're in good company....not really MY company since I would hardly call anything I did as saving anything.

[Being an angel and all that, he was sort of expected to stand aside for the end of the world. End of all things. All that nonsense.]

But at least they managed to pull in most of the right warriors here. Hit or miss from what I've observed.

You wouldn't happen to be the doom and destruction type would you? Because we were getting along so well.

I wouldn't call anything I did to be particularly destructive. Now if we count my siblings and you want to go with blood relations then...guilty by association. They wanted the end of the world. I didn't care.

[Now he really is rambling. He waves his hand dismissively.]

A shame if that takes away from how this has been going. It's so hard to find good conversationalists.

[Hawke quirks an eyebrow but doesn't say anything. Guilty by association isn't a phrase he likes. After all, Hawke likes to give everyone a chance. If they screw that up then that's their fault but Hawke won't condemn someone before knowing them.]

You're definitely strange, but that description fits just about everyone I know. Suppose time will tell one way or another. It always does.

[A shame others did not always follow that line of logic. Where he comes from, it is quite acceptable to simply get rid of a problem before it arises. Never mind the consequences.]

I certainly cannot put that any better myself. We are our own judge after all...for ourselves and those around us.

[That hits a little closer to home than Hawke is comfortable with Balthazar.]

Well I do have a way with words. It's just a way not everyone appreciates.

[Sometimes Balthazar has his moments where he just says things that happens to be more than they actually want to hear.]

The same could be said for me. I have plenty of siblings that could tell you that my own ways with words often lead me into bad situations. So...feeling is mutual.

Sounds like they have something in common with my own then.

[Maybe, Balthazar is kind of an enigma that Hawke wants to figure out.]

Can't expect everyone to have a sense of humor I suppose.
