There's a lot of things I've learned to just accept since I've been here. A magic bottle with the personification of death inside it is something that I can live with. What really confuses is me is how my dog ended up inside it and who put him there.

[At that moment there's a bark and Hawke's notch-eared mabari pushes his way into the feed, examining the strange thing that Hawke appears to be talking to. Hawke's hand falls to Notch's head as he pats the dog's head.]

Don't get me wrong, I love having him back, but answers are always nice.

[So would knowing that his dog isn't actually possessed by whatever corruption was in the bottle.]

At least the trip was fun enough. We should plan another one soon. Maybe this time without a dragon the size of a mountain, or the swamp. I'm thinking a chateau overlooking a lake.

[ A pause, and just to make sure this is clear. ]

For the time being until I find another means of leaving.

[This is Hawke rolling his eyes.]

[ His jaw clenches for a moment. ]

I'm not the one treating this situation like it's some kind of field trip!

No you're the one pouting and brooding like someone just kicked your puppy.

[There's a soft huff from Notch and Hawke rolls his eyes before looking to his dog.]

Oh you know what I mean.

I'm not pouting.

[ He is visibly pouting. ]

Please, next you'll be hitting me with the big doe eyes.

[ Well, the pout is now going into a scowl... again. He doesn't seem overwhelmed by the implications there, but with a face this grumpy doe eyes sure would be a sight to see. ]

No, now you're stuck halfway between a pout and scowl. A powl maybe? Or a scout?

[He mulls that over.]

Not sure if that last one works too well.

[Nope, not taking any of this seriously right now.]

Neither of them work. And I already said I wasn't pouting!

[ He can't be blamed for not taking Zuko seriously. Zuko makes it really hard for people to. ]

You think of a better name for it then.

[It's like he's dealing with a teenage version of Fenris. That thought is just scary.]

So I really have to ask again. What exactly are you doing?

It doesn't need a word, because it's not a thing, and I'm not doing anything.

[ Making the assumption they were still talking about his face here, which as far as Zuko's concerned looks perfectly natural at the moment. ]

[By the Maker, Hawke loves this kid. He's doing half Hawke's work for him.]

Exactly. You're not doing anything. So if you really want to complain to me then try fixing that first.

[You've got to earn the privilege to complain there Zuko. That's what Hawke does.]

[ Okay, there's no doubt about that being a scowl right now. ]

That's not what I meant! Don't twist my words around!

You know you probably wouldn't be bothered so much if everything I said wasn't true.

[Poke poke poke.]

It's not true. None of what you're saying about me is remotely true!

Alright, so what have you done to help lately?

I went on that "fun trip" with the rest of you to clean up the mess that bottle made.

[ Really over stressing the fun trip part there. ]

[Completely ignoring it.]

Well that's a good start. Where do you plan on going from there?

I don't plan on having any long term plans for this place.

[Sigh.]

And here I thought we were making progress.

No one has been making any progress anywhere in this entire conversation!

That's because you haven't been paying attention.

I've been paying more attention than this conversation deserves.
