003; Video

There's a lot of things I've learned to just accept since I've been here. A magic bottle with the personification of death inside it is something that I can live with. What really confuses is me is how my dog ended up inside it and who put him there.

[At that moment there's a bark and Hawke's notch-eared mabari pushes his way into the feed, examining the strange thing that Hawke appears to be talking to. Hawke's hand falls to Notch's head as he pats the dog's head.]

Don't get me wrong, I love having him back, but answers are always nice.

[So would knowing that his dog isn't actually possessed by whatever corruption was in the bottle.]

At least the trip was fun enough. We should plan another one soon. Maybe this time without a dragon the size of a mountain, or the swamp. I'm thinking a chateau overlooking a lake.

Well...

Not when 'poison' here is shorthand for 'blood sacrifice in the death plane which resulted in the turtle's near-death.' It definitely wasn't something he ate.

And that ain't giving him ideas. That's what he did and worked for a while.

Is it?

[ Inasmuch as Bucky's concerned, it's doing something that doesn't involve putting a weapon against the person - or turtle - that's supposed to cause his death. Pretty much matches up 'poisoning' him, in his book. But he's not a subtle man, exactly. ]

If you say so...

[ Bucky considers that, then his mouth twists. ]

Sorta. Far as I understood it, the big bad didn't perform the blood magic himself. He made kedan do it for him. So it's technically possible that any of them, or us - because people brought in to fight him have also been controlled by him - can actually perform it.

Down to who he'll pick, I guess.

From the last message from the now-late Emperor, I gathered that it ain't even 'just' blood magic, either. Anything to win.

Uh. Hold on.

[ He's learned how to do that! Linking! Um. There! He searches for the broadcast he means, then links Hawke to it. ]

She wasn't exactly the freest one with information, but it was... there. Especially if people asked her about things in public replies.

[ Bucky can probably help with that. He started from not knowing how to do it, either. ]

Well... sorta, yeah. But I think she was the one who could do magic and was in touch with the turtle or something. Evandau is more the order-keepin' guy.

And that was my reaction to the term, too. I was told that, basically, a clone is... a copy of a person, a relpica. Of the person's body, that is. They make bodies for us, and then ... bring us in, somehow. Some folk found such a place - such a facility - under the turtle a while back, but it got blown up by kedan. Now I gather it's all happenin' around the palace, somewhere, since that's where people wake up.

Far as I got it, we here are the replicas. That's how they can... bring people back. I mean, here, if somebody dies, they just wake up in the same place as everybody who's just arrived. Another "cloned" [ he makes an air-quotes sign, look what fun things he's been picking up, here! ] body.

Yeah, maybe. But that's what she confirmed, with talkin' about the clones and all.

[ Bucky's look is apologetic. Some things about this place are harder to swallow than others, and he can commiserate with that sentiment. ]

Yeah, best of luck with that, pal.

[ There was a time when Bucky was pretty content, here. It's been a while, since then. ]
