(A length of cloth is resting on Alayne's knees and she is busy stitching. The sound of thread being pulled through, tightened and then piercing the cloth again can be heard by the keen of hearing.)

Dresses of a Southern make are far more difficult for me to stitch. (Her pink lips purse and she bites off a thread with her teeth.) I fear, should the weather warm, I will be incredibly uncomfortable in wool. Yet silken fabrics are notoriously difficult to piece together. They leave no room for mistakes - even slight ones.

(Sucking on one of her fingers, her brow furrows. It isn't common for her to stab her fingers. Septa Mordane would know something is amiss with her. Yet her dear Septa is long dead.)

I heard some strange noises on the street. I'm certain someone grabbed my skirt, but I didn't stay long enough to look.

(Therein lies the problem.)

Could they follow me to my room?

I thought at first it was footsteps, but then I was sure I heard a weapon being drawn. It was the sort of sound a sword makes against its sheathe, though softer. A knife, perhaps?

That's a sound not everyone recognizes, especially in all the noise of a street. Been around a lot of weapons being drawn, have you?

I returned to the Hotel unscathed. (So, yes, but she is frustrated.)

[Anton is in the lobby with her while she uses the console, updating his ledger, and overhears her words. He looks up to answer, his brow furrowed.]

Anyone may enter the Hotel, but if anyone should attempt to enter your room against your will, it is a contravention of the Hotel's rules. If you wish, I will keep closer watch on your door tonight.

[The kedan know better than to cause trouble in the Hotel, but if it would help Lady Stone feel more comfortable, it isn't a difficult thing to offer.]

(Her frustration ebbs away at the sound of his voice. She looks up and smiles in welcome, her hands pausing over the fabric.)

Would it be any trouble? I do not know why they would follow me so far, but I am certain they were armed.

[Ah. That explains something; the Snakes do appear to be belligerent, and though they've been better lately they nevertheless skirt their own leader's rules when it comes to violence. Gang-members, while aggressive, are such in a defensive manner, and they are too familiar with Anton's skills to risk making an issue within his domain.]

Most likely Snakes, I think; they are those who feel the right to be openly armed. Gang-members would not dare to accost a patron in my Hotel--they know me too well. Certainly, I can watch your door.

[ Sometime around the time she is making her message Nelo Angelo was coming back in from the outside pulling off his new jacket over his tunic shirt, simple pants a boots. He was dressed in old styles, but fitting of a knight without his armor. He was heading from the doors to the steps when he stopped in his tracks as if he noticed something. What he noticed was her hair.

He turned looking over at Alayne. The girl from the market, He was sure trek upstairs could wait. ] Miss Alayne?

(He looks very smart indeed. Alayne sets her sewing aside and stands, giving him a graceful curtsy.)

My lord. I see you were enjoying a stroll as well. (Everything she had heard, in passing, about the Fire Sector was correct. Even though she barely escaped being mugged, the trip had been worthwhile.)

Which sector were you enjoying?

[ And he in turn bowed. Not many ladies were in Mundus' court, and like hell he would ever bow to Trish, so this was a rather new thing. But he had read all about how a gentlemen should act and it's deep ingrained as part of his need to be honorable.]

Something like that, yes. [ He did not wish to admit he was looking for someone missing. No need to cause alarm.]

I quiet enjoy the water sector myself, there is not much of water where I am from, so I enjoy seeing it as much as the snow. Which likewise I never saw before ending up here.

The kedan sell things like cotton and linen. I don't know what plants they actually are, but that's what they feel like. If you want something other than wool and silk.

If you're staying in the hotel, I'm pretty sure the proprietor takes security seriously. If you're followed, they won't be able to get at you in there.

Cotton and linen are other options that I may consider, but I enjoy the feel of silk on my skin. (Dresses are prettier when they feel good to wear.) Besides, I like challenges. I am only frustrated because of circumstances that occurred earlier this evening.

I don't think so. Anton takes hotel security pretty seriously. But if you're worried, I can set up an alarm system on your door. And if anybody gives you trouble or you don't feel safe in the city, I also provide complimentary ass-kickings, free of charge.

[He grins, though his attitude is a little less blithe than it normally is. Alayne is new, and as far as he knows she hasn't antagonized anybody, kedan or foreigner. She's unfailingly polite and kind to everyone, so if anybody's been trying to harass her, Tony won't be happy. He will, as promised, kick ass - and if Yunxu or anybody else has a problem with that, they can take it up with Iron Man.]

I trust he will keep me safe; that is why I fled back to the Hotel initially. (She gasps and laughs shakily, looking away. No one has promised her a "complimentary ass-kicking".) ...thank you, Tony, but I'd rather you didn't put yourself in danger for my sake. They likely wished to steal something off of my person or to harass me.

(It's not the first time she has been molested on the street by strangers.)

Oh, I'm not going to be in a lot of danger. No offense to the kedan, but I don't think any of them are a match for me. And I don't think any of them will be eager to tangle with Iron Man twice.

Anyway, you shouldn't have to be worrying about people bothering you like that. [Tony's expression turns more serious.] I know we're trying to make nice with the kedan, but we still need to look out for each other. The kedan should know that they can't mess with one of us without messing with all of us.

[Sokka had listened to the messages on the consoles, but he didn't know exactly how long it had been since she had posted it earlier. He certainly recognised that it was one of the consoles in the Midnight Hotel from the looks of it, and while he could have just replied on the consoles directly, he thought it was worth the risk to actually check the hotel lobby first to see if Alayne was still there. You know, just in case she was super distressed or anything.

[And thankfully, she still was. Sokka, still in his heavy wool coat and pants walks briskly over to her and seems, admittedly, a little out of breath. He had run here from... wherever he had seen the message.]

Alayne!? Alayne... are you alright?

(She is pale and agitated, but her distress has begun to fade. However, when she looks up and sees him so out of breath, some of her worry returns. Had he been attacked too?

Putting aside her sewing, she rises and hurries over to him, brow furrowed.)

I'm fine. But what about you? Sokka, you look exhausted.

(Carefully, she reaches for his arm and tries to guide him to a chair.)
