Couple of things!

I just want to let everyone know that the Welcome Center will be officially reopening next week. I really appreciate everyone who's pitched in to get it back in order. I'd like to run it with volunteers like we did before, so if you're interested in a few hours a week, let me know. It's not hard to do, but it makes a big difference for someone when they have no idea where they are and how they got here.

Can anyone fix these weird symbols on the consoles? I feel like I've broken something, but I can't get them to go away.

Last, has anyone had a chance to talk to those ambassadors yet?

PS. This weather is not my fault, I swear!

I'm Genis, Raine's sister. Zatanna was telling me that I might find you at the Welcome Centre when I went over.

Guess I should have guessed by the hair, huh?

[ Which is funny, because there are now a ton of people here with white hair. ]

Raine and I have talked a few times, she's nice. Zatanna and I are running the Welcome Center together.

[ There's pretty audible fondness in Jack's tone when he talks about Zatanna too. ]

[All the more reason for Genis to come out and say so directly.]

I would say yes, but... there are a lot of people here with similar hair too. I actually thought Bakura was a half-elf for a moment too. Not that all half-elves have white or silver hair or anything, but he almost looks like an older version of me.

So I'm going to take a wild guess that you're not a half-elf either.

[Which is a little disappointing, but he's not going to cry over spilt snow. Jack does seem nice.]

You sound like the right people for the job though! Zatanna was definitely a help in getting some of my bearings here.

Nope, I'm human-- well, I'm a spirit, but human. You can be both at the same time.

[ He grins at the compliment. ]

Thanks, Genis. Back when I got here, there was a lady named Pepper doing the welcoming for the new arrivals. She's long since gone home [ and there's a faint flash of sadness there ] but I took it over, and I've been doing it ever since. Didn't seem right to have all her hard work just stop, you know?

Wait, how can you be human and a Summon Spirit at the same time? Aren't those two things entirely different?

Or is this one of those things that's different in your world?

[Ugh, this just makes things all sorts of challenging even trying to find common ground.]

Well, it's certainly something that's good to have for people like me. I mean, somehow I don't think that any of the kedan are going to go out of their way to print me a map.

Not quite sure what a Summon Spirit is, although it sounds kind of part time. In your world, do you have... hm, what's the best way to put it? Like, the spirit of this, or the spirit of that. You know, "spirit of really special mountaintop" or something? That kind.

Well, something like that. We've got the Summon Spirits of Wind, Fire, Water, Light, and all those. They're beings actually made of mana, and Sheena could summon them to aid us when we were fighting monsters and bad guys.

I mean, some of them looked vaguely human, but they weren't.

So are you saying you used to be a human that's become a spirit?

Huh... no, that sounds different. Still cool, though. Although not all spirits in my world look human either, so that's not exactly a telltale sign. And yeah, I was.

Even among the Guardians, North and I are the only ones who are -- were -- human before we became spirits. Bunny's a pooka, and Tooth is part hummingbird. Sandy's... Sandy.

I am not even going to ask what a pooka is, but if it doesn't look at least something like a rabbit, I'm going to say that Bunny has a terrible name.

So what exactly are these Guardians that you mentioned? What do you guard?

He's the Easter Bunny, but he's a pooka. I guess Easter Pooka didn't play well in the popularity survey, who knows.

Guardians of Childhood, and it's pretty much what it sounds like: we protect kids.

[And so, Genis will get the entirely wrong mental image on this one.]

It sounds like he's something like one of the Katz then? Sounds like kind of a great guy, really.

Though I suppose it would be nice to have Guardians of Childhood in my world, even if I'm pretty much on the verge of becoming an adult any day now. It'd have been nice to have found a more permanent home way earlier.

Not sure what a Katz is. Bunny was actually here for a couple months, way back-- two years ago, or three, with the Dreaming thing. He didn't stay very long though... it's weird, how some people only show up for a while and others are here for a long time.

[ Jack wisely makes no comment on Genis' remark of becoming an adult any day, because he knows how kids think. And Genis does seem pretty mature, at first glance. ]

Well, I hope you wouldn't object to my appreciating the little child-ness you've got left.

Ah man, you really want me to stay a child for longer? Being a child can be lame sometimes. People don't take you seriously, and you have to do what older people say.

[Groan. But at least there is some amount of childishness still in him because he's going to be so super excited to talk about the Katz. Like you would not believe!]

Jack, you don't have Katz in your world? You are totally missing out! The Katz are these people that dress up in big fuzzy costumes to make them look like cats! They're really amazing! They have an entire island and everything, and they run the explorers' guild in my world. And some of them like to play games with kids too. I'm a big fan of them! They even gave me one of their costumes once!

Are you kidding? Being a kid is the best. If you feel like acting like an adult, you can and everyone's impressed. If you want to goof off, no one even blinks.

You can't get that kind of variety as an adult.

They have a whole island? Now that's getting big time!

I guess so. My friend Zelos got smacked all the time whenever he goofed off around Sheena. [That is so not the same thing, Genis. Unfortunately for Genis, he knows that.] Then again, so did I if I was too obnoxious.

[He shrugs and shakes his head. Whatever.]

Yeah, although I don't know if they occupied the entire island or not. The only spot we really visited was one big city on it.

Sometimes girls do that, don't take it personally.

[ He's totally getting an after the fact smack from Zatanna later for that remark. ]

Sounds like a pretty good set up. Maybe I should look into getting an island when I go back.
