[The man in the video is blond and good looking, and thanks to an impromptu shopping trip with Akito he's dressed like a local already. As the video starts up he's muttering something about "backwater" before he settles down and addresses the network.]

Ah, hello. My name is Alistair Krei, though... I don't suppose that means much to most of you out there, does it?

[He frowns for a moment, then shakes his head]

Anyway, I'm looking for some information on the technology here. I had a tablet with me when I arrived, but I don't know enough about the consoles or the rest of the tech here to know if it's possible to interface with them successfully. That said, I'm sure someone's already looked into this--without me having to risk frying my own computer to test it. Anything about the consoles or the general level of technology, or the work being done on them, would be appreciated. For reference, I run a technology company back in San Fransokyo and my own degree is in computer engineering.

[Oh god this is what he was afraid of. Stranded in some backwater world with no Armani, no credit cards and no lattes. What has he done to deserve this?

Nothing, that's what.

After blinking at the screen for a few moments:]

It's a kind of coffee. Espresso and steamed milk. I'm guessing they don't have them where you're from, but they're pretty popular in my world. [It still feels so strange to say that. My world.]

If I'm stuck drinking black coffee I'm going to be one very unhappy camper.

We do not. But I drink my coffee with honey and spices, if I cannot have klava.

Ah... "klava"? Can't say I've heard of that one.

A drink form my homeland, made by passing coffee through woodchips and eggshell to remove the bitterness and impart flavor. I have recently acquired a device to make it.

[she wouldn't mind trying this 'latte' either]

One does not consume the filter any more than one would consume the coffee grounds.

Anyway, I suppose it'd be interesting to try. It's certainly not the most outlandish thing I've ever heard. Birds' nests and such.

Bird's nest soup, more to the point. It's considered a delicacy in some countries. Very expensive. [Well, not when you have the kind of money he's got, but.] It's also supposedly full of health benefits, though I've never tried it myself.

[He gives her a somewhat rueful smile.]

And now that we've somehow gotten onto the topic of strange foods, maybe we should back up and give introductions a try? Alistair Krei, as I believe I said before.

Not long. Only three or four years.
