All I know is that when the stone turns dark, the room starts spinning. I've heard other people have had problems with theirs, too.

We have.

Mine was stolen about...what, a month ago? Give or take. When I got it back, the stone was tainted.

What do you mean by tainted?

[It seemed that everyone's stone came back doing something different. For those whose gems actually did something. Dove's never seemed to have any problems.]

See, our gems each have this aura about them. Not everybody who's sensitive to mystic energies can sense it, but it's there. Most of the time, our gems and our souls are meant to be in alignment, because that's just how it works.

But ever since I got mine back, my gem's been off. Like they did something to it that messed with the magic holding my soul inside. Or put some other magic over it. Whatever it is, I can't figure out how to fix it until I know exactly what happened after they took it.

...just for the record, only half of those stories are true. Probably.

I'm just hoping the one about you being able to tell me more about what happened to my gem is true. But now you've got me curious.

Yes and no.

I can sense when things are off. Like if your stone is corrupted or if there's some sort of spell cast over it, or things like that. But something tells me I wouldn't be able to tell you anything you don't already know.

[Purposely avoiding the latter part of that statement? Yup~]

[Fortunately for Zatanna, Yuri isn't the type to press the issue. Everyone has their stories, and sometimes they're best left alone.]

Well that's a handy skill to have. But yeah, I think it's pretty obvious there's something wrong with mine.

But what's interesting is that it sounds like a different kind of wrong than mine.

Yeah, from what I hear, everyone's seems to be different. Almost as if it's tailored just for them.

Or if they have no idea what they're actually doing, and each failed attempt means they try something new the next time. Thus, the different results.

Yeah, maybe. But the effects seem to be getting worse. I'm not sure if that means they're getting better or what.

Based on my experience with screwing up magically...it probably means they're getting more and more desperate. Trying more challenging rituals, with little regard for how big a change it results in.

Damn. How many people have to suffer before they give this up?

Realistically? ...it could be as many as the entire Foreign population. We're the only ones with true Soul Gems.
