For those of whom you haven't met, my name is Robert Callaghan. I used to be a professor, back home, before I found myself here. And I know things have been a bit...hectic...lately, but I've got some news.
To make a long story short, I can call myself 'Professor' again. I've been talking with some of the Kedan who work over at the university, and they've accepted my help. The educational system here is a bit different than what I'm used to, and not necessarily in a bad way, but...it still could use a bit of help. I'll be working with them to open up classes to both the locals and foreigners, and ideally would like a hand in making sure everything goes smoothly these first few weeks. Nothing too advanced, just some information sharing for those of us who are missing the basics, whomever we are. Everyone has something to learn, or even teach.
[beat]
Now, then, while that's all getting fixed up, I'm still doing some mechanic work on the side- you already heard from my 'coworker', Hiro. Ideally we'll get things to the point where everyone can take care of their own simple fixes, but until then...he's not shabby with a wrench, and I'm not, either.

I thought that if you were a professor once, you were always a professor. Kind of like if you have a PhD and you're a doctor?

And you're right, I wasn't not one, but- still. It's something to be back in that role more directly, as opposed it only being in my past...or with a few individuals.
[and now there's that pause]
It's a part of me I let lapse. Really picking it up again...well.

[ waitasec... ]
...Does this mean I'll have to start going to school?

You teach fast enough that it doesn't get slow.

If it didn't interfere with more important things, I would consider it.

[Hiro, you've already been told no, behave yourself.]

[It's a kneejerk reaction, one that has him wrinkling his nose, but he also doesn't care to elaborate on the fact he didn't...technically...end up going to school at home at all, in spite of the letter Callaghan had given him at the expo.
But there's reasons for that.]
But I can teach people how to use machines. Bet I know more than most of them already.

What sorts of things do you teach? You know, in case I've got to start studying for a test or something.

Originally, I taught robotics and technological applications- here, I'm going to be mostly focusing on the latter. Getting everyone on the same page with what they can do to help make their own lives easier, in terms of basic upgrades.

Might you know if they will offer any information on the history of Keelaiai? There are some questions that have gone relatively unanswered and must, surely, have shifted a bit, when the kedan regained their...senses of self, I suppose is the best way to put that. It would be good to know, and might benefit the Welcome Center too.
[And, you know, give them all a picture of the official story, perhaps even of the War itself. That would be useful too.]

I do agree. It sounds like a great opportunity to open up something more of a dialogue along with...I do wish to really know. And it can be applied to so much.

If they're not so heavy on class-based learning, should I assume there isn't much in the way of shit like textbooks?
