I'm sorry...I didn't mean for this to happen. I didn't even know it could.

[She sounds exhausted.]

And I know that several of you are hurting as a result of what happened when I tried to possess Tu Vishan...

[The fact that the other foreigners had seen the vision was distressing, she didn't like being used for anything, even if it was by a benevolent being. It was still just too reminiscent of Malicant.]

But the turtle is alive.

[Her voice is quieter now.]

And that vision...I believe it came from him.

[Her logic made sense. It wasn't definitive proof, but if the alleged coma was magical...]

Then there might be something we could do about it.

[She was quite glad for the distraction from the vision of death, and actually discussing how to fix the turtle was a relief.]

I've been here a long time. And I even got to meet Asti once. Sort of. I think. Meeting someone in your dreams counts here, right?

[She wasn't certain how to answer that question. On one hand, she knew it to be true, The Dreaming had proven that. But on the other...relying on dreams for happiness and purpose was a dangerous path. Luckily, that wasn't the question asked.]

[Fortunately, she wasn't talking about anything that in-depth. Her happiness wasn't dependent upon the idea of having spoken to Tu Vishan. It was more for...sentimental reasons.]

Figured. Which is why...I mean, magic is kind of a part of this world. It brought us here. And I know for a fact that it can be tapped into.

[At least something good came out from that mistake]

Maybe there is something we can do. Those of us who know magic.

[Magic...she knew that there were several kinds that didn't exist in her world, but...]

I'm afraid that my particular kind of magic is somewhat useless in this instance.

[Death magic was definitely not what they needed.]

Maybe. Maybe not.

So far, you're the only person who's been close to getting in contact with him. I wouldn't exactly call that 'useless'.

[It may not have backfired on her this time, but what she had done was still dangerous...'reckless' was the word Raine had used.]

Perhaps, but it is also an unpredictable magic...the fact that you all received the vision is proof of that...I don't think I should attempt it again any time soon.

[Oh, Zatanna's probably tried way worse. And succeeded in certain almost-as-bad situations.]

Teeechnically, all magic is unpredictable. The more powerful it is, the less certain you are of what's going to happen.

[That probably isn't helping her case, is it?]

[Valdis really couldn't come out and say what kind of magic she had, especially not over the radio, after all Zanru had managed to get ahold of one and who knew how many other non-foreigners possessed one.]

I suppose that's true.

[And yet, she still knew that she couldn't attempt another possession so soon, she wasn't nearly stable enough to control the Void with the required precision.]

Just what do you suggest?

Uh...

[Yeah, maybe she should have thought of an idea before she started on this tangent. But she couldn't help herself. Whenever the possibility of magic was involved--especially the kind of magic she could get involved in--she tended to get a little...excited.]

Well, any spell with that much power would definitely take more than one caster. I'd guess four, minimum, if we were going elemental-based...maybe even five.

The more people contributing, the more likely they'd be to stay in control, too.

[Zatanna was suggesting a group cast, something that Valdis had never even considered and to be quite honest, she was very skeptical about how exactly they would get it to work, especially with such a variety of magic.]

I'm not sure that my magic would be very compatible with that kind of spell, but there might be others...

[It was an idea. Unfortunately, it was an idea pulled off the top of her head with very little prior experience in. She'd heard of magic circles being used before. For lower level spells, she might have even been able to pull one off.]

[Even worse, the image that had originally come to mind had been led by Klarion and his sorcerer hoard. Ancient, highly experienced practitioners of the mystic arts who had combined their energies to literally split the world in two.]

Yeah, that's kind of the tricky part.

I know there are other magic users around. Probably. [More and more have been coming and going yet again; she'd just recently heard about the young boy.] What I don't know is how compatible any of us might be with each other.

[Valdis knew of several magic users, Raine, Skulduggery, Solomon, Erskine, Zatanna, Bakura...]

Do we need the same element of magic?

[if it was one element they were after, then perhaps she could pull together those who used dark magic, if she could get them to cooperate with her and each other. But at the same time, twisting dark magic to save a life didn't seem like it would work very well.]

I don't think so?

[She would have loved to sound more confident in that. She didn't.]

I remember learning of some spells when I was younger that actually worked better if each corner represented a different element.

[Valdis wished that Zatanna had sounded more confident, but if that was indeed the case, then they would simply have to find a way to counter the elements they needed.]

If we had the mages we needed...how would we go about this?

[She was aware that others were probably listening, but now she was counting on it.]

[She might have sounded more confident if she hadn't been pulled from her training at the age of fourteen. Force to continue her studies independently, without her family's journals.]

Okay...well...

The way it's done in my world, you have a magic circle. About nine feet in diameter--you know, three times three. [A powerful number in Wicca.] Each person would take up a corner, but there would be one central focus. It can either be a head caster, or else some sort of powerful gem being used as a catalyst.

[That sounded more like witchcraft than magic and it also sounded quite dangerous. What if that focus was unstable or couldn't hold the power provided. And there was the problem of whether or not the magic was even compatible. There were too many things that could go wrong]

Ok, but do we even know what kind of spell to cast?

[The two often went hand-in-hand where her powers were concerned.]

Nope.

[Might as well be honest on that front.]

Though my first thought? A sensory spell, to see if we could get whatever magic that's keeping Asti contained to reveal itself. It wouldn't break anything...probably...but it might give us a better idea what to do next.

[It sounded reasonable enough...and safer than her trying to use the Void to go back in.}

How many mages do you need?

As many as would be willing to volunteer.

[Times like these, she wasn't willing to be too picky.]

[That was the issue now, wasn't it? Getting the mages she knew to volunteer.]

I suppose that there's no harm in trying.

A sensory spell? [She shook her head] Not really, no.

I mean, the worst that could happen with something like that is that it doesn't work. Or it does, and nobody can agree on what they see.

[If that was the worst that might happen, then it was probably worth a try, however, considering the group she was contemplating, conflict was also quite likely.]

Would you take the lead on this?

[She didn't currently have the energy.]

[Do I have a choice, at this point?]

Yeah, sure. I can head this up.

It was my idea, after all.
