I've been through this myself. She's explaining it the exact same way, and she has no soul gem in the way Foreigners usually do.

According to my database, depending upon her species, there are other possibilities for such symptoms. Ranging from viral infection to bacterial to infestation to pregnancy to even...I believe the phrase is food poisoning, although it is my understanding that poison is not necessarily involved.

[Again, not to say that the soul gem wasn't the culprit. Just that other possibilities should not be dismissed.]
