[Console: Video] 001
I must commend whatever force that brought me from Ivalice to the back of a giant adamantitan. I didn't think anything could surprise me anymore, but here we are.
[He gives his most devilish and debonair smile. It makes him look just a little more charming and a little bit dangerous.]
I imagine introductions are in order.
[And he gives a curt little bow.]
Balthier, at your service.
And if I may pose a question - no, perhaps more a request -
What are the best pubs in the city, and what holes in the wall would one generally prefer to avoid?

Best place to avoid? Fire Sector.
[Yes, Valdis, you are so helpful.]
Video
But no matter. Just looking for a few recommendations.
[He rests his cheek on the curl of his knuckles, seeming all the world utterly relaxed.]
I daresay you've been in the city long enough to know.
no subject
Far too often it seems.
[More serious now]
I've been in the city for over two years.
[If you count the year in the dreaming, which she is choosing to.]
Keeliai has charming qualities.

[He grins a little at this, despite the general misgivings he has about the place.]
'Charming' is a good word. It's certainly distinct from anywhere I've been in Ivalice. But like any good city, I expect it has its seedy underbelly.

Oh, yes, the Fire Sector is ripe enough and its well-dressed overseer is quite the king cobra.

[It might be the poorest part of town but at least he'd be avoiding the Fire Sector like some people are suggesting.]

Thaaaat's not what I meant. They've got more than just literal water.

It's not far from the hotel's water sector entrance. Just a couple blocks down. You can't miss it.

Fire Sector, there's this place... bloody hell I don't even remember the name of it. Blue... blue sign out front, I think? Some kind of....
[He laughs a little helplessly]
It's on a corner. Blue sign. It's a good one.
video;
Had a little trip there yourself?
no subject
As it just so happens, yes. An' I can personally vouch for the quality of the whiskey.
no subject
I'll be certain to keep my eyes peeled for a blue sign.
[He gives a little bow with just a bit of flourish.]
Balthier. It's a pleasure.

You've been to the Welcome Center, found a place to live an' all that?

...On that note, what does it eat?
video
I do not know, actually. I arrived fairly recently, myself, so I am still learning.

Wait...
What do you mean you didn't realize there were any non-humans around?

That's a broad offer to make, my dear.
[Oh, she's familiar with the way the phrase was originally used. She's just choosing to bother him.]
How high are your standards for holes in the wall?
video;
And you know how these things go - just looking for the favourite haunts around here. I'm sure I'll find my niche soon enough.
video;
There are some lovely tea shops in Fire. Some less lovely in Earth, which I wouldn't recommend unless your definition of tea is exceptionally loose. As for pubs...
[An elegant shrug.]
Very few meet my standards, I'm afraid.
video;
Now, which pubs meet your standards?
