I have something to tell you all, and some of you might not believe me.

[Valdis' voice is hesitant, halting and uncertain]

There are very few of us left, it seems, who remember Malicant's reign or the atrocities committed by his followers. The death, the taint, the drugs and the suffering inflicted upon foreigner and Kedan alike is unknown to all of our newcomers. But this isn't just about that.

[A long pause, followed by an audible breath]

I have recently discovered that Milyn, the Cherrywood Healer, was involved with the Cultists. She reported directly to Daseng and created the drug known as Dust, as well as the base for Lucid.

[Another pause and then a low growl.]

She was our only ally among the Kedan when we first returned from the Dreaming, she aided us in defeating Malicant...but she also helped him wreak his havoc in the first place.

[Another growl]

I don't know about all of you, but I can't trust her anymore.

[Zatanna stared at her radio for a long...long time. Jaw dropped. Eyes wide. A very unpleasant shiver traveling up her spine. When she finally spoke up, her voice was weak with denial:]

...that's not funny.

Do I sound like I'm joking?

Can you blame me for kind of hoping you were?

[Dark as that sense of humor would have been.]

Pardon my language, but...what the hell? Wasn't she the one who looked over our bodies while we were in Dreaming all that time? I mean, was she a double agent or something?

No...I couldn't...

Milyn refused to admit that helping the cultists was wrong, she has no regrets over helping create Dust or...I don't think she truly realized that what she was doing was hurting people, she did it for the love science. However, when I spoke to her, she did seem aware of her experiments intended uses.

[At first, there is a pause.]

May I assume this has to do with the ... meeting you had with Dardul the other day?

[Something happened there--something set off the wards--but Milyn had been customarily cheerful as she left.]

[Experiments]

[There was that shiver again.]

Please tell me she didn't experiment on us.

Yes...

[A long pause]

I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, there were other things I had to attend to...

[Yuri had nothing against Milyn, but he wasn't exactly close to her either. Sure, she'd helped him out a few times and seemed nice enough.

But Yuri trusted Valdis, and didn't think she would lie about something like this.]

Dammit. You're really sure about all this, huh?

[There was no doubt in his voice, more like Yuri's coming to grips with this information.]

Of all the double crossing backstabbers.

[Let it be known that Yuri still has no love for the cultists or those who would help them.]

Do you know what manner her examinations of Dardul have been taking?

[Read: Have the Hotel rules been broken?]

I don't know for sure...

[She could almost hear Zatanna's shiver in her voice, but she had to say it.]

But she's asked for things before, like blood, and we've given it to her of our own free will.

Yeah...I remember that.

And I remember fighting her over it, too. My blood...I didn't want just anyone having access to it. Because of my magic.

[Though now she couldn't remember if she'd ever agreed in the end. Or if there were any signs Milyn had taken some of it anyway while she had been out.]

I don't know...I should have started paying closer attention when I first began to suspect she wasn't what she seemed.

My source is absolutely certain and Milyn confirmed it herself.

My blood doesn't hold any power that I know of...I gave her some to combat that virus, but I don't actually know if she used it for that.

[A long sigh}

This just calls all her actions into question.

I see.

I believe I will have Raine examine him to ensure he hasn't been put in any danger. As to any future visits on Milyn's part ...

[He sighs.]

I suppose I can have Raine oversee the next, as well.

[Milyn knows the rules, and this is no proof that she would hurt Dardul in the Hotel ... but there's also things she hadn't deemed important, yet are.]

I'd say it calls a lot more than that into question.

How did you even find out about this? I know she tends to ramble endlessly on her quiet days, but even she wouldn't just abruptly blur out "oh hey by the way I was totally working for the evil prick who tried to kill you all and Asti a few years back" out of the blue.

[She hesitates, almost not wanting to admit it]

In our discussion, Milyn seemed to imply that the soul inside of Dardul didn't belong to him...

Damn, this is not funny.

[His voice one of barely restrained anger. Yuri had experienced that dust first hand. It was because of that, that his soul gem had been stolen and messed with. To think that the woman who had been the champion of the Foreigners had helped with that.]

So what do you plan to do about it?

I have a source...and when I confronted her about it, she told me it was true.

[There is a very long pause, long enough that one might have suspected that she had left or was simply ignoring the question, but when Valdis finally answers her voice has a soft edge.]

I don't know...

[A most definite lie]

Dammit Valdis, don't you dare go off and do this yourself like some lone wolf.

[... Hypocrite much, Yuri?]

And how'd your source find out?

I mean, I've been hearing a lot of whispers going around lately...it's not hard to figure out something's up.

Don't worry about me, Yuri...I'll be fine.

[She didn't even have a particular plan in mind, mostly she was just going to watch and wait, for now...]

My source used to work for her...sixteen years ago...

[She was extraordinarily hesitant to announce to all the foreigners that she could access the spirit plane and walk through souls, especially souls of people that were supposedly dead....]

[Well... she did have a point. There wasn't much that could put Valdis in danger. But it is kind of Yuri's thing to be protective about those he cares about. Still he calmed down a little bit.]

Sorry, but I don't think anyone is going to be fine after this.
