I have something to tell you all, and some of you might not believe me.
[Valdis' voice is hesitant, halting and uncertain]
There are very few of us left, it seems, who remember Malicant's reign or the atrocities committed by his followers. The death, the taint, the drugs and the suffering inflicted upon foreigner and Kedan alike is unknown to all of our newcomers. But this isn't just about that.
[A long pause, followed by an audible breath]
I have recently discovered that Milyn, the Cherrywood Healer, was involved with the Cultists. She reported directly to Daseng and created the drug known as Dust, as well as the base for Lucid.
[Another pause and then a low growl.]
She was our only ally among the Kedan when we first returned from the Dreaming, she aided us in defeating Malicant...but she also helped him wreak his havoc in the first place.
[Another growl]
I don't know about all of you, but I can't trust her anymore.

May I assume this has to do with the ... meeting you had with Dardul the other day?
[Something happened there--something set off the wards--but Milyn had been customarily cheerful as she left.]

But Yuri trusted Valdis, and didn't think she would lie about something like this.]
Dammit. You're really sure about all this, huh?
[There was no doubt in his voice, more like Yuri's coming to grips with this information.]
Of all the double crossing backstabbers.
[Let it be known that Yuri still has no love for the cultists or those who would help them.]

Re: Private
She denied none of it and she even seemed proud of what she had accomplished. The only reason she gave was that it was for her people.

[ Someone's still grouchy over having been under the chatterbox's care after reviving and having to listen to her for three days straight. But then in a more serious note, added: ]
There are different kinds of trust, khapshemet. If she's as unrepentant as you say, perhaps that much can be trusted in itself?
no subject
True, though it is certainly not what I would have expected to trust about Milyn.

That's nuts. I've heard about Dust and Lucid... She made them?

[Pepper has only recently interacted with Milyn, having only encountered her very sparsely at larger events, but she's heard a lot about her. The Cherrywood Healer was well-known around Keeliai, and most Foreigners spoke rather higher of her than any other significant player in the city. Significant despite not being a family head, and deep enough into things to know where Yunxu kept some of his salt. Hm.]
I mean, I didn't know enough about her to trust her in the first place, but that's, like, totally messed up. Not like she's the first person in history, but that doesn't make it any less uncool. Very Werner von Braun of her.
no subject
[This would be an interesting development for sure, but Valdis liked Pepper, so this conversation was perhaps a bit more nervewracking than most.]

How did you find this out? Do you know if she's still in contact with the cultists?
[He can hardly believe that Milyn, of all people, would have been working with Malicant's followers. She's always been an ally to the Foreigners - she even protected them and cared for them when they were fighting Malicant in the Dreaming. It just doesn't make sense.
But he also can't think of any reason why Valdis would like about something so serious, and that doesn't seem in character for her anyway. What the hell is going on?!]
