I have something to tell you all, and some of you might not believe me.
[Valdis' voice is hesitant, halting and uncertain]
There are very few of us left, it seems, who remember Malicant's reign or the atrocities committed by his followers. The death, the taint, the drugs and the suffering inflicted upon foreigner and Kedan alike is unknown to all of our newcomers. But this isn't just about that.
[A long pause, followed by an audible breath]
I have recently discovered that Milyn, the Cherrywood Healer, was involved with the Cultists. She reported directly to Daseng and created the drug known as Dust, as well as the base for Lucid.
[Another pause and then a low growl.]
She was our only ally among the Kedan when we first returned from the Dreaming, she aided us in defeating Malicant...but she also helped him wreak his havoc in the first place.
[Another growl]
I don't know about all of you, but I can't trust her anymore.

Private
[A long pause]
I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, there were other things I had to attend to...
Private
[Read: Have the Hotel rules been broken?]
Private
Private
I believe I will have Raine examine him to ensure he hasn't been put in any danger. As to any future visits on Milyn's part ...
[He sighs.]
I suppose I can have Raine oversee the next, as well.
[Milyn knows the rules, and this is no proof that she would hurt Dardul in the Hotel ... but there's also things she hadn't deemed important, yet are.]
Private
[She hesitates, almost not wanting to admit it]
In our discussion, Milyn seemed to imply that the soul inside of Dardul didn't belong to him...
Private
[Leaving aside the fact that Milyn had never been in charge of souls, as far as Anton was aware. Still, maybe she'd learned something from Eva.]
Private
[a pause]
I think that Daseng had people watching Dardul for more than one reason.
Private
[A pause.]
You think Daseng is responsible for Dardul?
Re: Private
[A pause to match his]
And I think he needs Milyn to help him do it.
no subject
[The simplest explanation, after all.]

[Despite feeling put off that Anton doesn't believe her, her voice is steady, as if the previous emotions had never actually been there.]
But Enon was murdered sixteen years ago, the body was identified by his family and the kedan cannot hold a shape that doesn't belong to them after death.
no subject
Why is he not? We know that there are serums which can force a shapeshifted change--such is how Malcil hid, before he was arrested. Could someone not have done something similar to change Enon's appearance?
[His tone is slow, tentative; he isn't a detective, and he hasn't been involved in much of this process. All he really knows is what happened with Malcil, and what Valdis is telling him now.]
Though I suppose it matters little either way, if the cultists are behind his state--regardless of how it was done. You intend to pursue this Daseng, I take it?
no subject
Yes. Not only is he leading the cultists, but he might be the only one who can fix Dardul.
[The only pity about the second part was that she would much rather kill Daseng and be done with it, but she couldn't.]
no subject
What are you planning, a leanbh?
no subject
I'm not entirely sure.
[Not quite a lie, but not quite the truth either]
no subject
Once you become sure, will you tell someone before you implement it?
no subject
[No guarantees that he would appreciate who she told, but she truly hoped that it would aall work.]
no subject
[He would like to think that Valdis would know what he meant and abide by it ... but he can't be completely sure.]
no subject
Of course.
[Now she had no idea who to tell. Skulduggery was gone, Raine would disapprove, Klaus...Klaus might be helpful.]
no subject
Thank you.
[Unless she has more to say, he's going to disconnect, but he's still disquieted--for more than the obvious, and more to do with what Valdis might do with what she's learned.]
