[Jehan has Problem, and this seems to be the fastest way to find a solution for it even though these things still confuse him. So, he turns it on with a shy smile, looking much less beat to hell then in his first request for help a few weeks ago. However, he looks like someone who really hasn't been getting much sleep, dark circles and everything.

He's also in a pink waistcoat that really does not go with his red hair. This is why Jean Prouvaire is not allowed to buy his own clothing. He normally knows better, but lack of sleep leads to weird ideas and he's not one to fight them.

Does...with so many different people here, I was hoping someone would be able to help me. I haven't been sleeping well, since my arrival, and it is starting to take its toll on me. I am in need of a sleeping draught or laudanum or...anything, really, to aid my sleep. Not wine or--other alcohol, though. That only works temporarily. Otherwise, I am open to any suggestions you may have.

If Hypnos could bless me with dreamless sleep even for a night, I would be forever in his--and your--debt.

Oh. So the lack of sleep is because of dreams? [ he kind of gets the whole i-want-a-dreamless-sleep thing though ] I've been thinking of building a machine that lets people have a dreamless sleep, but then more important stuff got in the way. I'll let you know when I do manage to build one, though!

Could I? Well, Monsieur Prouvaire, it just so happens that you are talking to a super-genius mechanic! If you can think it, I can make it possible!

I'm not really that familiar with the specifics of dreaming but I've heard about REM before and how people can sometimes control their dreams. I think that if I create some kind of device that can flash LED-lights faint enough not to wake you up but still enough for your brain to register them, with the right flash pattern and programming--thank the gods for Daedalus's Laptop I don't know what I would do without her, and by the way Annabeth still needs to give her a proper name but I'm getting slightly off topic here. What was I saying? Oh yeah, with the right LED-light flash pattern I could create a sequence that can either give you control of your dreams or, with a few more adjustments, eliminate dreaming altogether--

[Jehan just sort of tunes it out for a bit, wondering just how weird the future is until something hits him.

Demigod = half a god. Logically, the child would take after their divine parent (at least that is the reason so many kings claimed to be the son of Zeus, Jehan thinks). Leo is babbling about technology.

Jehan's antiquated. He's not stupid.]

Forgive me, but did you say in our first conversation you were a demigod?

[ leo is about to list the different tools and materials needed to build his newest invention when the question snaps him back to attention ]

Huh? Oh. Yeah, I did mention that, didn't I? Yep, one demigod right here.

Hephaestus? Forgive me if that is too forward, but I--think, a lot, and I am curious.

[ there's the briefest pause at that; he surely hasn't kept his godly parent a secret from other demigods, and annabeth apparently likes just throwing around the fact that he's the son of hephaestus to everyone who she thinks needs his skills, but he hesitates, anyway because, well, as far as he knows jehan is just a mortal.

he's not really sure how much jehan knows about the gods. maybe if he keeps the focus on the blacksmith stuff jehan won't remember the whole fire thing?

So he hastily puts on a grin. ]

Yep, that's right. Leo Valdez, Son of Hephaestus the God of the Forge, at your service!

[Oh, he remembers the fire thing. He just doesn't think that's something Leo could do. That's divine. He's not.]

That explains quite a bit. You...know quite a bit about future technology, or at least I'm assuming you do.

I don't just know them, man, I build them! You should see my labor of love! It's a 200 feet long flying ship with a bronze hull and a fire-breathing dragon masthead--the dragon's named Festus, by the way, he's a really great guy--and equipped with repeating crossbows. It's a spankin' hot war machine, is what I'm saying. I call it the Argo II.

[ he is positively beaming rn he is really proud of his ship ok ]

I know; I'm such a genius I just can't stand myself sometimes!

Are flying ships common in the future?

What? No! Well, not yet, at least. But then again, that's why I'm such a genius.

Although I met someone who said flying cars are a thing in her world, so there's that, too!

Yeah, cars! Man, you 19th Century boys have a lot to catch up on.

Cars are wheeled motor vehicles used for transporting people around. It runs on gasoline that's converted into energy using an internal combustion engine--an engine first created by two French dudes in the early 1800's, if you really want to know--like the diesel, gas turbine, HEMI, rotary, or two-stroke engines--not an external combustion engine, though, those are for steam boats and older trains and stuff. Basically the idea behind internal combustion engines is to ignite a source of high-energy, like gasoline, so that the energy is released in the form of expanding gas...

[lol oops, leo has gone into rambling mode! would jehan like to interrupt again? or would he like for leo to go on?]

--Monsieur Valdez, I just want to know what a car is. I am sure Combeferre would be interested in the mechanics, however.

[ tbh he's been interrupted so many times before he's not even fazed, he just grins ]

Oh! Right, he's that other guy who came in sometime after you, isn't he? Guess it's pointless to ask whether you'd like to join our tour around the Metal Sector, then?

One of them, yes, and what is the Metal Sector like?

The Metal Sector's got those cars I was telling you about, and also motorbikes and tall buildings and modern architecture--though Annabeth's a better person to ask about this whole architecture stuff, not me. I'm telling you, man, it's a place of beauty! You really should check it out sometime!

Huh? Well, yeah, I guess nature's cool too, if you're going for that whole nature-loving, flowers-in-your-hair bohemian vibe and all.

A Romantic? [wat ees romance?? is it like building machines??] Like, roses and candles and poetry and randomly bursting into horribly cheesy love songs?

the only reason this isn't longer is because I'm not sure how to go on XD

Poetry, yes--I am an aspiring poet--but it is a good deal more than romance.

For quite some time, there was this idea that the only way to appreciate anything in life, be it nature or art, was to rationalize it. Other ideas--notably in regards to politics--came from that era but I will let Enjolras speak on that. As time went on, people began to feel that rationalization was not, in fact, enhancing life but ruining it by taking the joy and emotion out of it. Ideas such as spontaneity, wildness, and creation took the place of rationality. A connection to what is already around us is more important and vital than understanding what is around us, and the only way to have that connection is to experience it for oneself. Books and drawings of a flower can only do so much to convey it's natural beauty and can never give you the experience of seeing it for yourself.

[There. He's fairly certain that was to the point. As he spoke, though, he started sounding more passionate and less polite and delicate]
