[ It's bright outside, as a disheveled man, looking a fair bit mad with his bow-tie askew, addresses the console cheerfully. ] Helloooo, citizens of the Tu Vishan! This is your captain speaking. Not really, but I do like the thought of being a captain, at some point. [ He winks. ]

I'm new, obviously, and it seems I'm not alone in that, so hello, fellow news, and good day, dearest olds — though I suppose whether the day is good or bad or simply so-so is entirely subjective. [ He sticks out his tongue briefly. ] Still, it tastes like an awfully good day, if you ask me, which you didn't; but it's a bit late to protest as I've already told you.

Anyway, I'm curious about some things, so let's skip pleasantries and go straight to queries, if you're so inclined. [ He holds up one finger. ] Thing one: where and when are you lot from? An approximation is fine. And don't worry about confusing me if it's complicated or timey-wimey shenanigans are involved. I happen to be rather quick on the uptake.

[ Two fingers up, like a peace sign. ] Thing two: flatmates. [ said as if it is the newest, most delicious word to ever be spoken. ] Apparently, I'll be lodging in WO-2B, so if you're also lodging in WO-2B, I am led to believe that makes us mates of the flat variety. In other words, lodgers, roomies, neighbors. etc. Which means we really ought to get together and chat a bit, maybe eat crisps, talk about girls — standard flatmate stuff. Yeaaaah. Flatmate stuff. Love a good flatmate, I do.

[ Three fingers and a grin so wide, it nearly splits his face. ] Thing three: great, big, sexy, blue box. I'm looking for her, and she's probably looking for me. Tangentially related, large-nosed Roman and shout-y ginger. May or may not be with the box; most definitely with each other. Probably kissing. [ kissing noises go here. ]

[He nods, suddenly much more wary of the man who seems to know more of their time than anyone else from the future has.

It has been many years since Enjolras has felt a boy. He has been leading men since he was still a youth with little to recommend him but an imperishable dream. But he feels young now-]

A settler in neither time nor space, doctor? [A concept he would have refused to consider a month ago. Now- how can it make less sense than a city on a turtle?]

I'm a Time Lord — a time traveler who, naturally, lives outside of time. I've got a machine that travels through time and space. How could I ever settle? [ And it's time for a rant, complete with frequent hand gestures and the occasional clap and twirl. ]

If I can go on a date with Madame de Pompadour on Monday, then have tea with Good Queen Bess on hour later, then spend the afternoon watching Rome fall, then stop Venice from falling, then save the earth from a fleet of invaders, then facilitate an intergalactic peace summit between humanity and yet another race they've gone and offended — and then, I can think, "Well, I really ought to go warn Caesar about those pesky Ides, eh?" And then I do it. I pop in to tell Brutus I rather like his cape and recommend Caesar watch his back.

That's one day. That's one nonlinear approximation of a day in my life. Every one of my days is like that. Everything that's ever happened and ever will — all at the touch of a button. [ He looks straight at the console, at Enjolras. ] Could you settle down, if you were me?

[There is no pause before Enjolras responds.]

And forsake my duty to my fellow citizens?

Right, okay, backing up a little, just to clarify.

Time Lord. That's me. The Time Lords' job is to watch over all of time and space and make sure everything goes according to plan. That's my duty. I'm doing it. Not forsaking a thing. I'm not much a forsaker in general, honestly. It's a bit passé.

[ as an afterthought. ] What's your duty, though, if you're feeling inclined to sharing?

[Enjolras has only recently learned of Super Heroes. This, he thinks, must be a similar situation- where a person who extraordinary ability works on behalf of those who do not, in situations where they can do nothing.]

I am no Time Lord, I am- was a citizen of France, Paris. I will fight for the oppressed and other like them.

[spacehipster]

Oh, well that's quite admirable, isn't it? [ rhetorical question. ] Good on you, Enjolras.

How is that fighting for the oppressed thing going for you here in Tu Vishan, hm? Just out of curiosity.

The Empress has no right to rule, here. She gives no explanation for her abduction of us, nor does she believe in the progress of equality of men. My friends and I will not stand this.

[Enjolras stop talking treason over open chanels.]
