003 ♙ VIDEO

[ On pops the feed, showing one smiling and somewhat eager, Ariadne. And as always, she has been thinking (a lot) and has a few things she would like to talk about with everyone.

So… please enjoy? ]

I know that some of you are already aware of this fact – but, back home in Paris, I'm an Architect. [ a damn good one in her opinion, which, yes, only seems to cause a smug smile to start to tug at the corner of her mouth. ] And, well… given the apparent state of the Turtle as of late. I’m willing to have a look at any structural elements you might be concerned with.

[ a shrug of her shoulder and she is adding: ] There is nothing of major concern right now that I'm seeing. But… there have been a few things that have caught my attention. So just let me know if you would like to have me or even my friend from home look at anything for you.

[ a long beat and she is moving on to her next topic. ]

Also, Stephanie mentioned something to me, about a few of us trying to start a Foreigner ran Committee a while back. [ and this is where her expression turns a bit more eager (she really likes this idea, okay?) ] I really like this idea, and I'm hoping that we can maybe get the ball rolling on it?

After all, it might be a good way for us all to work together, and perhaps hopefully ensure that our voices are heard.

[ because lets face it, half of the "foreigners" aren't exactly use to living under a ruler and want to make sure their voices are heard. ]

I think that might be it for now. [ which only has her furrowing her brow in thought (gotta make sure after all) before she is sighing and smiling faintly. ] I know this whole ration thing is going to be interesting, but if you do need help with something, don't hesitate to ask.

[Grantaire matches Ariadne's eye roll with one of his own, as well as his own mock interest.]

So I have heard, you must be proud of yourself.

[Anyway, he brushes it off, unaffected.] I've no problem with women being able to vote and paint, or whatever the hell they choose to do with their times, stop fussing about it. I'm simply surprised that the Academy of Stodgy Conservatism would consider women architects when they would not even consider Madame Vigee Le Brun.

It's not progress that surprises me, mademoiselle. [There's a glint in his eyes and a quirk of his lips that, were his eyes not glossed from wine and his mouth loose from that same vice, might have seemed like a wolf's challenge. Luckily for everyone involved, he's never been particularly good at being a predatory animal so much as a scavenger, picking at stray pieces and flying away with a belligerent squawk.]

Best of luck and Cheers to progress I say, but. Progress is a game for young men to play, and the Academy will never be young. By the time young men have grown to be worth that famed title of Academy Chairman, they've grown old enough to (rightfully) lose that spark of hope that adds fuel to the fires of progress. Old men are bitter, and the Academy is always old men, pursed lips, sagging tits and all.

Ariadne. What a shame that you've clearly got nothing in common with your namesake when it comes to weaving your way through mazes, else you would have followed what I said and wouldn't keep asking the same damn questions again and again and again. I'm was surprised that you'd received an architect's education, but now I'm surprised because you seem a bit thick. Mais non, that's hardly a reflection on all women, I know plenty I hold in higher regard than most men. Mademoiselles Flora Tristan and Amandine Dupin come to mind, though you've likely never heard of them by their given names at the very least.

As for progress, well, you may find I fight for nothing but whatever side of the argument needs a heavy weight to hold it down from fluttering away on the wings of idealists. That and a full glass.
