Hi. My name’s. Korra. I’m the Avatar.

[There’s an awkward pause before she says her name. The cadence in her words is a bit off, a combination of never using the network before (or not that she can recall) and the unknown expectation of who will answer.]

Some of you may know me, I guess?

[Guh, she hates trying to cover it and just tackles the heart of the message.]

Look. I can’t remember anything since I was ghosted. [Or whatever the hell people are calling it.] Not this city, this turtle, or anyone.

But a doctor said that if I just hang around familiar things and people, even scents, then it might help me remember some things. I just, can’t force myself to remember them. So if you recognize me or know something else that could help I’d be grateful.

[Mark gives a little wave, and tries to put on his best smile. Poor Korra...]

Hey. I'd like to think we're friends. You swore to protect me, at least...

I'm Mark.

[Smiles are good, they encourage her to think people weren’t just disappointed in her for some reason. She returns the wave.]

Hi Mark. Protect you from what?

Life? [In his best Korra-sounding voice.] "I'm the Avatar, I've sworn to protect all people, including normal people like you" is what you said--or close enough.

[Mark, that's horrible and she's laughing at the impersonation even if it doesn't stir anything in her memory.]

Wow, who even uses- [She blinks and her smile wanes a bit.] wait. The Avatar has to swear to protect everyone?

[He smiles when he sees her laughing because, well, even if she doesn't remember him, he knows she could use the laugh.]

I... have no idea. I only had your powers for a few days when everything went screwy.

But I'm guessing yes? Sort of like a superhero.

[Every ounce of happiness is making the difference for her right now.]

Wow, I don’t really feel superhero-y. How often does that happen? The whole switching Avatars thing?

I... have no idea. I got your powers by a fluke about a month ago when magic gone wrong made everything go haywire. But I think other than that the whole Avatar thing is you 24/7/356.

That. sounds. crazy.

[How is magic even a thing?]

So you don’t know what an Avatar is either... But, if I said I would I guess I still can. Do you know what kind of person I was before?

You're one of the most outgoing people I've ever met. It seemed you were always there for your friends whenever you needed it, and you wanted to protect everyone. Though... sometimes you had a bit of a temper and flew off the handle at something you thought was wrong. Not that I can really blame you, I've guilty of the same thing from time to time.

You were... you are... Korra.

[Chuckles at the memory.] And you really hate hard hats.

[She felt flattered until the part about the temper, then maybe a bit embarrassed. All in all, it’s a rounded summary and more than anyone’s told her so far. She chuckles at the hard hats comment. Not that it made sense, just that it felt whimsical.]

Well, I don't feel very outgoing right now. Everything’s so, strange. Did I fly off the handle a lot?

[For that matter…]

Hey, who can blame you? You're on a weird island filled with people that claim to know you and you have no idea what they're talking about. I totally wouldn't have been able to ask on the network at all, if I were in your position.

And I didn't mean that in a bad way. You just... really don't like when people do something wrong.

Heh, not as much as I used to. Thankfully.

[Korra has that face you make when someone FINALLY understands exactly what you're going through. Mark’s permanently on her white list for not asking her “You really don’t remember anything?” and instead describing what’s been on her brain since day one of her memory loss.]

You know, I think I remember being like that. [Or she can totally justify doing that in her head.]

But that’s standing up for what you feel is right. That wouldn't be too bad of a thing, would it?

[Unknowingly treading into ethical/moral grey areas.]

[Why would he ask that? It's quite clear she doesn't.]

Not at all.

It's just... sometimes things aren't as cut and dry as you think they are. [Mark isn't trying to lecture her... he's talking from experience.]

Well I'm not sure what's what right now, but I'll probably be right back to that as soon as things start becoming familiar again. [It doesn’t sound like a lecture to her, just some general advice.]

[Laughs.] At least you're honest.

[She shrugs and gives a bit of a laugh.]

I can’t be anything else. I just gotta look around at these places and things and hope something comes back.
