Stupid technology…and I thought the ancient El-Hazardians made things complicated; this has got to be even worse!

[Because technology is only good when it works, and highly selective in whoever it chooses to be user friendly toward. Can you really blame her?

Upon closer inspection of the girl, she looks somewhat drained, like the strength had been sapped from her body and she was slowly trying to get it back. She shows some visible signs of her weariness, pinching the bridge of her nose between her thumb and forefinger.]

Okay…whatever…it’s on so it’ll be what it’ll be for now…just as long as I can communicate…oh and since we’re communicating I’m going to need some answers right now.

[She sure sounds grateful, doesn’t she.]

Because…well, to be frank I didn’t understand a single thing those Phantom Tribe look-alikes were trying to yammer at me…and while we’re on the subject of yammering keep it brief. [She makes the gesture for small with her fingers to emphasize the point.] I was dumped here with a massive headache and I don’t think I can take too much…I don’t know if it has something to do with the fact that I can’t use my powers all that great…[She snaps her fingers, but only a small burst of fire appears briefly and like a candle being extinguished it goes away]…or maybe they did something…bastards…if they did I’ll seriously…

[…“kick their ass” is hanging in the air there somewhere, but a wave of weariness washes over her and she drops her head into her hands.]…This is so stupid…

Ugh, tell me about it. I’m starting to get used to this console stuff and there’s still stuff on it I don’t know about. I’m Korra by the way.

[That worn down look felt familiar. Korra’s first day was mostly spent resting before even trying to use the network. That spark of fire catches her eye right away though.]

Oh that, don’t worry about it too much. Happens to everyone when they arrive, or at least it did to me. All your powers should be back to full strength by tomorrow or so.

[While she badly wants to ask about firebending, Korra is sure she’s not from her world. Not with that red hair.] Have you been able to use fire all your life?

Technology doesn't look anything like this on my world...I don't suppose smakcing it around a little will help...heh. [She's grateful for the sympathy even if she is a little bit on the grumpy side.] Name's Shayla-Shayla...but one Shayla's enough.

[Well at least this was normal. Shayla figured she'd become imbued with special powers after being transported to a different dimension (she's still convinced that's what happened) she wasn't expecting to be totally zapped...]

...Waitaminute! [Get a load of that, she got some energy from somewhere and she goes from slumping to sitting bolt-upright.] This will go away?

[That was so illuminating she was almost unwilling to answer Korra's question, but what the hell...tit-for-tat and all of that.] Uh...oh no, not all of my life. Just when I decided I wanted to be a priestess. So only since I was a little brat...maybe around ten years old or so.

Believe me, I’ve wanted to hit mine a few times too. [Thankfully she managed to not put her fist through the screen when she “chatted” with Amon.] But I have no idea how to get a new one or how much it would cost, so I’m trying to make a good punching bag instead.

[Korra can’t help but smirk.] Yup, just take some time to recharge yourself and you’ll be as good as new. Some people like to poke around the city but I just kind of crashed. [Harder than she’s ever done in her life. Somehow her snoring didn’t wake up her neighbor.]

You learned to do that as a priestess? [That one was unexpected.] I’ve been able to use fire since I was four. It’s called firebending where I’m from. [With a quick flourish, Korra opens her hand and a small flame is hovering in her palm.] Only those born with it can use it.

[Curious question time.]

What made you want to be a priestess?

Punching bag, huh? Sounds like a good idea...it'll take some pretty tough material to make one. [For her anyway, she's got a nasty punch that Korra could probably relate to]

Well...this cell does come with a bed, maybe I'll just go ahead and take advantage of the hospitality.

Hm...well yeah, that's kind of how it works, because only trained priestesses are allowed to wield the elements. I guess it's because they wanna weed out who will abuse their power from those who will do what they're supposed to...the instructors have a mean arm too. [Shayla would know, she's been whacked around the head with their paddles so many times she can't even keep count anymore.] So firebening, that means you can use the element too? I'd be interested in seeing what you can do!

[Really, because as a Great Priestess, she's constantly looking for...well...greatness.]

Oh...well that's...okay, so there are three Holy Priestesses. They're the best of the best when it comes to manipulating Wind, Fire, and Water...when I was a child I was privileged enough to watch the Priestess of Fire, Crayna-Crayna, the way she used fire when she was meditating was awesome! I wanted to do that, I wanted to be the next Priestess of Fire...and I did! It was hard work, but Crayna-Crayna retired and passed on the title to me.

Yeah, I was hoping someone might have something durable enough but I might just have to see what I can buy from the kedan. [Unless one Peter Parker manages to come up with something that can stand up to the face-wrecking punches either of these girls can dish out.]

Sounds good to me! I’m pretty curious to see how different our fire styles will be. [Seeing new things related to elemental control? Yes please!] There is nothing worse than criminals abusing their bending, they just- [That fire in her hand starts to get bigger before she makes a fist stamping the flame out.]

Anyway, that’s so cool that you achieved your goal! I’m still kind of working on mine and it’s gotten to be a lot harder now that I’m here instead of back home. But really, what can you do. [Enjoy a free suite and that air conditioning for one.]

I’m going to take a wild guess, but is your suite in the Fire Sector? [She’s got this question wrong with someone else, but can’t be wrong every time, right?] Before you get that rest, mind if I ask how old you are? I’m seventeen. [There had been quite a few older adults on the network, so Korra had been on the lookout to those closer to her age whom she could relate to.]

Someone probably explained that however we end up here is disorienting and draining on powers. Probably to keep us from killing our hosts until they explain things.

The crops aren't growing well, so we've got limited food stores. So everyone over twelve can only buy a set amount of food per week.

I know some people use it as an excuse to go fishing more; anything you can catch isn't rationed.
