[Wanda learned years ago how to hide her true feelings behind a calm, almost bored expression. She knew how to control her body language to seem relaxed when she wasn't, and how to rely on subtle nuances of tone to get her point across. So it's not difficult to hide the anxiousness and tension she feels in her Water sector suite. She's separated from her brother, really separated, for the first time in her life, and also from the team she's come to trust and rely on. In some ways, she even considered them her friends.

Lips pursed, she flips on the console in her suite and leans back in her chair, by all appearances entirely unruffled by her current circumstances. Dressed in her Ultimates uniform, she crosses one leg over the other and periodically takes sips from the glass of water in her hand.

Those familiar with her alternate universe counterpart might notice a striking resemblance to the Scarlet Witch they know. Though she's at least ten years younger, her hair darker and straighter, and her uniform entirely different, her face and bearing are remarkably similar.]

As it seems highly unlikely that our hosts have provided full and completely honest details about our situation here, I'd appreciate any insight you all may have, or information they may have neglected to to give me during their orientation.

[After a brief pause she continues, though the words are completely foreign to Wanda.]

It also appears to be required that I find work as well. Unless anyone's spoken to a man by the name of Fury recently, recommendations as to where I might begin looking would also be welcome.

[She ends the transmission without offering her name or listing any of her affiliations save that of Nick Fury. Those who know her will contact her, she's certain, and perhaps those familiar with Fury will as well. Anyone else she has no intention of enlightening any more than is absolutely necessary. Not until she gets a better impression of the climate of the city and the other foreigners living in it.]

[Eye patch? Huh. He has to think about that for a minute. Not that he knows of, but he supposes if this woman is from much later, it's possible Fury's eye got worse...] Nah, but one eye was worse'n the other. Used to cheat him at cards that way.

[Wanda pauses to consider this a moment, and the man she's speaking with. His voice is unfamiliar, and the information he gives her seems like there could be a connection, but she knows nothing for certain.]

And his first name was what?

[He hesitates to answer. Bucky's always wary of giving away too much information, but if she really is some associate of Fury's, he feels like he should probably know... A first name won't hurt. Lots of more elite troops worked with the Howlers at various points in their careers, it's not unreasonable that a soldier would know Sgt. Nick Fury's name.]

Nick.

[Wanda smiles then, just a bit, and though he can't see it, he might hear a trace of it in her voice.]

The same man then, I assume. You're one of his people?

[One of his people? Nnnnot exactly, Bucky is technically one of the government's people, and one of the Invaders, but now he's even more curious why and how she knows Nick Fury.]

We worked together some. You 'one of his people'? [...Did the Commandos get some women in their ranks? They were always pretty nontraditional, it wouldn't be a stretch...]

[Wanda's been juggling a few conversations at this point, and having already been outed by two teens, it seems there are some things that are pointless to be evasive about.]

I used to be. The last time something similar happened to me, he was involved. You can understand why I would wish to speak with him now.

[Okay so not a Lady Commando. Possibly someone who does not want to see Nick for good reasons.]

He got you kidnapped to the back of a giant turtle? [Sarcasm is a great way to get more information, right?] He ain't here though. None of the Howlers are.

Taken into another world, yes.

[She is totally legit, okay.]

I don't recall him having any association with any group called the Howlers, however.

[Considering they were a S.H.I.E.L.D. group largely relevant during the Gulf War, and Wanda had been a child at the time, it's understandable that she doesn't know what he's talking about.]

...The Howling Commandos? Never heard of 'em? Worked with Captain America a few times? [He's starting to suspect timeline issues. Timeline issues or alternate universe issues. Assuming it's even the same Nick Fury, because he can't really imagine him getting wrapped up in the weirder stuff just yet. He tries to keep his tone casual; it's getting easier, really, this happens quite a bit.] Might not be the same Nick, then. That's his only team, far as I know.

There's this... people not bein' from the right timelines thing here. It gets confusing.

[The more she juggles conversations, the more other possibilities become clear. There's been talk of other worlds, other timelines...the way that things coincide but don't quite entirely align makes more sense.]

It seems that's the case here. The Nick Fury you know may not be the one I know, though of course he has worked with St--Captain America.

[She's rattled, and she doesn't like it. It makes her feel more closed-lipped and frustrated, and more than ever she wants to lean on Pietro, to let him do the talking.]

What can you tell me about your particular timeline?

[He catches that almost-misstep, the way she almost says 'Steve' instead of 'Cap'. Another person who knows him, then? Seems like everyone does around here, but he's not too surprised. His Steve was pretty likeable. Still, he puts an encryption on the conversation - somewhat low because he's still not used to the tech, but he's been practicing.]

You know him too? Cap? [And there's maybe a slight, barely-there touch of hope to it, because he's a little more trusting of people who are friends with Steve - though not the Steve that's here.]

Uh... not much, it was 1945 for me. We've got the Howling Commandos and the Invaders, the Liberty Legion, Kid Commandos, Young Allies, all that. But not a whole lotta folks seem to remember any of those teams, or they haven't heard of 'em.

[Wanda nods in response to his first question, though as he continues on she begins shaking her head, unfamiliar with all of those. They were all before her time, and Wanda's education had focused a great deal on mutant matters.]

I'm afraid you'll have to count me among them, those aren't names I'm familiar with. Though, to answer your earlier question, yes I know Captain America. We're on the same team, in fact. I suppose the Ultimates wouldn't ring a bell, being from decades earlier...

Nah, never heard of the Ultimates. Don't think we ever get that team, or if we do no one's told me about it, just Avengers. [Hmm. This seems like an odd timeline, the things he's hearing don't match up with what he's heard thus far of his own timeline's future and it doesn't really sound like the one with the fake Steve either...

He lets out a breath, thinking it over for a moment. Is it really going to hurt if he lets a bit of information slip?] I was Cap's partner. My Cap. Don't think I caught your name?

Wanda Maximoff. They call me the Scarlet Witch.

[It's information already commonly known, already said on the network. There's no point in hiding it.]

And yourself? You said you were the Captain's partner...

[And she knows about Bucky Barnes, but she wants to hear it from him.]

[Yep, hasn't heard of her. Maybe he'll ask Carol or Nita, see if they have...]

Bucky. Tried layin' low already but I got made, so. [Waves a hand vaguely.] Still rather keep it on the quiet side.

Bucky?

[Now that's a surprise. Wanda blinks, leaning toward her console though video isn't on.]

I know you. Or at least, a version of you and your wife. Steve brought you to a function...

[Despite the differences in age, Steve seemed most at ease among his friends from before.]

[Ugh he hates hearing about other Buckys. It's kind of a blow when being Bucky is basically all you have, but he keeps the discomfort off his face and shrugs casually.]

Different one, then. I don't live long enough to get hitched. ...Who'd I marry?

A woman by the name of Gail. She was Captain Rogers' sweetheart, as I understand, before everything happened. The Bucky in my world married her, and decades later they are still married, still happy so far as I know.

[Wanda watches his expression carefully, but as subtly as she can manage.]

I'm sorry to hear of your...circumstances. May I ask how you became aware of that information?

[Bucky just curses quietly at that. Still not Gretchen. That's not what he wanted to hear. Maybe it would have been nice to hear that at least one version of him out there got to go back to Germany for her, got to make whatever they had briefly into something real, but...] I guess I'm the only Bucky in the damn multiverse who doesn't steal Steve's girl. Am I just the only one who can get a girl of his own? Criminey. We didn't know a Gail though, he had a different sweetheart.

[He just shrugs.] I was riding a bomb right before I showed up here. Basic math.

[Well that's quite the reaction. Wanda raises an eyebrow, one he can't see, and takes a deep breath.]

Basic math, of course.

As to the matter of Gail and your alternate self, I don't have a lot of other information. I don't know how it came about that Gail and the other Bucky came together but one can only assume that they developed feelings separate from her previous relationship. As I said, they have been happily married to each other these many decades.

I guess good for him, then. Got off easy, seems like one of us should. [You can practically hear the shrug.] It just seems... weird to me. I dunno.

So how're you settlin' in so far? [Because talking about his alternate selves is still weird and uncomfortable.]
