[So here's a guy smiling more than he should be. He looks downright cheerful about the whole alternate world between life and death bit, but looking cheerful is easier than people say it is. His expression is giving off the best "let's be friends" message that he's got.]

I think I hit my head. Which is kind of bad, because I can't afford to have hit my head right now. I was working on things.

Hey, anybody want to play a game? It's called "the last thing I remember". Anyone? I'll go first.

I was just about to finish a late night coffee and watching a fuzzy video with a fuzzy memory that probably means things are not going to end well very soon. The thing about that? If things were going to go bad this soon I would know about it. So that means I didn't just have an aneurysm that dropped my, uh, soul into this period fantasy. Is there a door? There has to be a door. Or maybe not. I admit soul transference isn't really my area.

[He pauses to let all of that settle before he seems to come to a conclusion.]

This can't be good for space-time.

If I had known there was going to be a vacation so suddenly I would have booked first class on the coach ride. Or at least have asked the kedan before we moved out for an upgrade.

Not going to be a journey I go on again in a hurry.

[The light smile he had been playing with slowly turns downwards and his brows come closer together.]

They aren't exactly the talkative kind, are they? I'm assuming there are people here that arrived like me? I'm also going to assume that there's probably no point in asking where the exit is, huh?

[The face that shows on the video is young, about seventeen, and framed by a tumble of brown curls. Dark brown eyes regard the console with some confusion before the young man speaks. He's wearing a plain white tunic and discarded armor can be seen on the floor behind him, as well as a bright white cloak. When he shifts in his seat, a sword can be seen on his hip]

We have nothing like this in Westeros. Not even in King's Landing....

[The comment seems to be more to himself than anyone else and is quickly forgotten. A frown replaces the previous look of confusion on his pretty face and he rests his chin in his hand. Normally this is the part where the false courtesy would come out but...he doesn't care right now]

This is not where I last was and not where I was meant to be going. Am I truly to believe this nonsense about a "place between life, death and dreaming"? To me that sounds like a poor attempt at softening the blow that you are dead. [Which doesn't bother him, really. He thinks that should probably disturb him a little but it just doesn't] And if that is the case, this is the strangest afterlife. Not that I ever believed in such a thing but....

[The frown melts away briefly and is replaced by a much more unsure look, as if he wants to ask something but at the same time doesn't want to hear the answer to it. The look isn't there for long before the frown returns]

Or at the very least it is an attempt to conceal information, which seems just as pointless. I suppose I'm just going to have to accept that there is nothing about this that is not going to seem ridiculous to me. Regardless, I would like to know if anyone has seen a maiden of about sixteen years who....well, in truth, she looks a great deal like me. If she is here I should like to speak with her. [AKA "Margaery if you are here I need you now". Margaery would know what to do]

[The feed clicks on to reveal a red-headed teen with yellow eyes, who's currently peering at the device like it's going to explode.]

Okay, power button. Check. I thought this could be like that episode of The Twilight Zone where they execute people by blowing up in their rooms and that maybe someone was clever for a change and made the self-destruct button look like the on/off. But! Obviously not, because I'm still here.

I think I'm getting paranoid. It's like there's this voice in my head going -

[Bart holds two fingers up to either side of his head, so they stick up through his hair like ears.]

"Trust nothing."

[He puts his arms down, and he really drops them. They're just suddenly gone, and the camera picks up maybe two frames of the action, but even that's a little lost in a yellow flash. Bart only laughs with relief.]

Hey! Look at that, they weren't lying about that either. Now, if it would just hurry up and work all the time.

So, uh. Hi. Bart Allen. Anyone know where to find the games on this thing? I gotta pass the time until the rest of you slow down.

[There is a very disgruntled dragon peering at the camera. She’s a bit of a terrifying sight, being large and red and spiky and ...well, there’s definitely steam coming out of those spikes. She leans close and nudges the screen carefully with her nose, then settles back.]

This place seems very dull to me, I cannot imagine why I was brought here if there is nothing interesting, at all, going on. There is not even a proper aerial corps or a navy, so how is one supposed to gain capital? It is very rude to be snatched up out of one’s home, you know, and placed upon the back of a large turtle without so much as a by-your-leave. [There’s a bit of a huff, and steam obscures the camera for a moment, and then Iskierka has subsided into a sulky pile of curls.]

Granby will certainly be asking after me, even if what the people say here is so, that we are in-between. [And there’s another annoyed little grumble. She has never had patience for this sort of thing.]

I have already lost track of him once, I shall not do so again. Pray, has anyone seen a tall, dark-haired man about? He would be in a fine coat -- gold braid and green, and he is called John Granby. Tell him Iskierka is looking for him, and she is quite alright, but I should like to see him. If you are keeping him from me, I will find him.

[Wanda learned years ago how to hide her true feelings behind a calm, almost bored expression. She knew how to control her body language to seem relaxed when she wasn't, and how to rely on subtle nuances of tone to get her point across. So it's not difficult to hide the anxiousness and tension she feels in her Water sector suite. She's separated from her brother, really separated, for the first time in her life, and also from the team she's come to trust and rely on. In some ways, she even considered them her friends.

Lips pursed, she flips on the console in her suite and leans back in her chair, by all appearances entirely unruffled by her current circumstances. Dressed in her Ultimates uniform, she crosses one leg over the other and periodically takes sips from the glass of water in her hand.

Those familiar with her alternate universe counterpart might notice a striking resemblance to the Scarlet Witch they know. Though she's at least ten years younger, her hair darker and straighter, and her uniform entirely different, her face and bearing are remarkably similar.]

As it seems highly unlikely that our hosts have provided full and completely honest details about our situation here, I'd appreciate any insight you all may have, or information they may have neglected to to give me during their orientation.

[After a brief pause she continues, though the words are completely foreign to Wanda.]

It also appears to be required that I find work as well. Unless anyone's spoken to a man by the name of Fury recently, recommendations as to where I might begin looking would also be welcome.

[She ends the transmission without offering her name or listing any of her affiliations save that of Nick Fury. Those who know her will contact her, she's certain, and perhaps those familiar with Fury will as well. Anyone else she has no intention of enlightening any more than is absolutely necessary. Not until she gets a better impression of the climate of the city and the other foreigners living in it.]

[. . . Kind of. There’s also something a little off about that glare. It doesn’t quite seem to focus like a glare should.]

Okay, so whose bright idea was it to put dirt on some of the turtle shell, but not all of it? If you’re going to put dirt on a turtle in the first place, you should at least not be stupid about it and finish it off.

Also, what kind of turtle are we talking about here? Is this a turtle-duck, or a lion-turtle, or what? I tried to ask one of those kedan guys, but they wouldn’t tell me.

[A small smirk, highly self-satisfied.]

Guess they were still sore.

[She shrugs.] Anyway, name’s Toph for anyone who cares. You’ll learn it soon enough.

[ Rikki thought about going somewhere to do this anonymously, but what the hell, the people who matter are probably going to figure out (or worry) it's her anyway. So she's just sitting at her own console, face in her hands and not exactly looking at the screen. ]

[Carol is seated in front of her console, in civvies. Actually, sitting might be the wrong term. She's more floating a few inches above her chair, legs crossed. She does this sometimes without thinking when she's sitting. She looks mostly unbothered by this whole thing. A little frustrated maybe but at most it seems to be a minor inconvenience]

So. Alternate universes are a bitch, huh? Or whatever you'd classify this as. You would think whatever bigger power it is you believe in would have decided by now that this has happened to me enough but I guess not. Oh well, what can you do? [Said oh so casually like she has just seen way too much of of this shit. Which she has. Weird happenings are sort of a thing in her life ]

Anyway, alternate universe craziness aside, my name's Carol. Nice to meet you guys. Under the circumstances and all. I'm sure you hear stuff like this a lot but let's just get this out of the way first: What's the progress on not being here anymore?

And while I'm asking things, how many people here are from Earth? Better yet, who here has heard of the Avengers, the X Men or Captain America? Or who knows anything about superheroes at all, even if it's not any of the things I just mentioned? Let's just say I want to know for my own reference.

[She'd also like to see just how many people ended up here from her world. Or a world similar to hers. Having more superheroes around never hurt. She pauses and glances off to the side, looking at something intensely for a minute as if considering something very important before turning back to the console]

Unrelated but can the fires around here actually burn things? Just, you know, curious.

Nice weather we've got, huh? Haven't seen anything like what's up in the sky in a long time.

[90% encrypted to Iorveth, Fenris, and Castiel]

[He's thought about this for a few days; Dean's sitting on some information that more people need to know about, but there are kids on this turtle and he'd rather avoid freaking them out if he can. Plus, there are people here who might think the Emperor is weird, but that she's a pretty okay person overall, and he's not up to changing people's minds at the moment.

So he wants to share things with people he trusts, except he doesn't trust anybody here who isn't Cas. Fortunately (?), the turtle is casting off some awesome chill-out vibes, so Dean decides to extend a friendly hand to Fenris and an olive branch to Iorveth.]

[ So, Roy hasn't been around that long, but he's gotten to know Keeliai, the natives, heard about the Emperor and definitely picked up on the tension between foreigners and the Kedan, but just out right asking about What The Hell Is Wrong With This Place seems a little too obvious. And lame.

And this way is much more fun. ]

Okay so is there a part of living on the back of a giant magic turtle that isn't supposed to be completely awesome? Because a lot of you seem to be really bummed about it, and I'm starting to think it's more than just a strong case of Stick Up The Ass going around.

[ And frankly, Roy likes looking like the idiot. He raises up a hand holding some kind of Kedanian smoothie in the cafe he's seated in, and gives an 'okay, humor me' kind of gesture. ]

[ It had taken Ender a few days before he even checked the network, and a few more days before he decided to place himself upon it. When the video starts, it's the face of just another child -- but one that's exhausted. From his serious demeanor and lack of a smile, he seems much older than he is in all actuality. ]

Earth -- I'm not talking about the sector -- does the name hold any significance to you? I've been wondering how many people here come from a place called Earth and just how many Earths haven't had to face the Bugger Wars. From what I've seen of the guests, many appear human overall and some even with the same technological advancements and understanding that are prominent in my world. If we're trapped in this place between life, dreaming and death, then I suppose it wouldn't be impossible to dream of the existence of alternate Earths.

[ Ender forces a smile, but that's just what it is. Forced. He's really in no mood to showcase good cheer. ]

If it isn't asking too much, even if you don't come from some variation of Earth, I'd like to know about your world. Subsequently, I can tell you anything you wish to know about mine. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed that we're being kept in the dark by the natives here. What they know and what they're planning doesn't concern me as much as our lack of understanding about the universes that surround us. I feel the better we understand one another, the more trust we can put in each other and the better equipped we become as a whole to any crisis that may arise. Sometimes, in a war, the most crippling blow can be dealt not by the enemy but by lies and mistrust.

That's all. Thank you for your time.

[Sabriel looks exhausted, but there's a certain note of satisfaction in her voice as she speaks.]

Atam was... interesting. I found several rather interesting things there. [Two of them are laid out behind her- a trident and a sword.] Including two books of Charter Magic from my own world. The shopkeeper said he simply found them one day, which brings me to my next point. [A brief look of anxiety comes over Sabriel's face, and her tone becomes something between a student giving a presentation and a teacher giving a lecture.]

I know the kedan are unfriendly, and that many here cannot defend themselves. Since I was a child, I have been taught how to wield a sword, and was tutored at my school in the basics of sorcery, and I want to share that knowledge with those who may need it to protect themselves.

[And Sabriel's long white fingers trace a glowing symbol in the air- the mark for light, to be specific, and lets it collapse into a bright pinpoint of light, illuminating the room.]

Charter Magic is not a toy, and can be a powerful tool in the hands of the skilled- a tool to harm, create, heal... or do many other things, if you know the correct symbols and have the power to use them properly.

[Sabriel lets herself relax a little.]

If anyone has any questions or would like a further demonstration, I would be happy to answer any such request here. And I have one inquiry of my own- is there any business in Keeliai that will hire foreigners?

[ The girl on the screen holds herself like someone who's used to being in front of a camera for an audience: she's comfortable and relaxed, her eyes on the camera instead of the screen, though she keeps tipping her chin down like she's looking over glasses she's not wearing. ]

My name's Georgia Mason. I know most of you probably don't recognize me, but I've actually been here for a while, so no need to do the whole welcome wagon thing or answer a hundred questions. Just the one, really: has anyone put together a single briefing packet we can hand out to newbies so we know everyone's on the same page and no one has to play twenty questions?

I'm well aware of the issues with translation when it comes to text, but you can't seriously tell me that having random people answer whatever questions you can think of while generally still in shock from having your whole worldview turned inside out, or watching and listening to literally hundreds of hours of posts hoping you come across what you're looking for is the preferable approach. So before I start compiling a Turtle City FAQ, could someone tell me if something like that already exists and just isn't ever used for some reason?

While we're at it, I know there have to be some computer programmers around here. Could we please get someone on some sort of Babelfish for these things? Because infodumps are a hell of a lot easier in text form, and I don't have the patience to re-edit a video every time I need to add something.

[ Inara comes into view with a smile, as always. She’s very confident sitting there in her suite, hands in her lap and a few candles burning behind her for ambience. She is the picture of calm and poise and looks entirely at ease.

Inside, though – Inara is boiling. Inara is Not Happy about several things, but there are…certain experiences best not ‘advertised’ on a public network.

But boy is she pissed about being fired, then threatened on the way home.

ANYWAY. ]

I have decided to open the Companion House that is located in the Fire Sector earlier than I originally planned. [ read: Inara got fired, and needs another source of income. ]

If you are interested or require more information as to what a Companion is and does, please let me know and I will forward you directions and information. [ Inara learned a valuable lesson: make a pamphlet. Repeating herself explaining the intricacies of Companionship was quite taxing. ]

I am also taking applications for those that would like to enroll in Companion training as well. [ Inara smiles, but her eyes are decidedly sharper here. ] This is not an endeavor lightly chosen. [Talia has been keeping relatively quiet over the network, but Jack's post caught her attention while she was checking up on things and she responds with a post of her own after gathering her thoughts.]

Hello... my name is Talia and I've had the pleasure of meeting a few of you since my rather rough arrival. [If by rough she meant near death, but that was a trivial matter right now.] As has been brought to your attention already, our hosts appear to be growing ever more impatient with us. In some areas this is as a simple as not offering us jobs, or refusing us service... In other areas, I have been physically jostled aside and I've little doubt that others have suffered similarly. I know rationing and I understand the stress that it puts upon a people, let alone a people that are 'suffering' unexpected guests. This is something more and it concerns me...

[She exhales slowly, because admitting to this had caused her problems in the past and directly caused her to be ostracized and targeted... needless to say, she was wary, but knew it was knowledge that needed to be shared.]

I would like it known that I am an Empath and a Mind Healer. One of the things this grants me is the ability to read the emotions of others and, if I choose, to sway them. The kedan are restless and they are angrier by the day... I'm the strongest Empath in my kingdom, but not even I can manage the entire expanse of Tu Vishan by myself at one time. I have been able to keep tempers calm around the Water Sector, but if you've need of me anywhere, at any time, you've but to send for me and I will come.

Otherwise, I will be making circuits throughout the Sectors and offering what help I may with my abilities. [And she'd continue to do so until she ran herself to the ground or the trouble came to an end.]

[ The elf on the camera is bristling, cast in the blue firelight of the Fire district. His hair is oddly bright white, as are the almost-glowing lines that trail down his chin and neck, and disappear into the collar of his armor. Over one shoulder is the absolutely massive hilt of a sword, which looks comically out of proportion with him. Fenris had finally figured his device out, but it involved a lot of making a fool of himself in front of the Kedan, which he does Not Look Pleased about.

The effect of his otherwise withering glare is somewhat undermined by the fact that he opens his mouth to speak but compulsively twitches his head to the side to stare over one shoulder for a few moments, paranoid about things lurking in the shadows. He wets his lips when he finally looks back, suspicion and unease written across his pointed features before he schools them into a sneer again.
]

I am not a mage-- [ he practically spits the word, what a pleasant first impression he's making here ] but even I can see that this is not the Fade. In Between, they say. Bah. What nonsense.

[ In fact while he's at it let him just stare distastefully down his nose at the thing in his hands. "Technology?" Unlikely. By its strange glow and stranger capabilities, it is totally obviously something far worse!! ] This place reeks of magic all the same. And I wonder who has suffered to make it so? Magic comes with a cost. It always comes with a cost.

Whoever did this will reap what they've sown. I should like to be as far away as I can be when that day comes.
