[audio]
[Her tone is blunt, sharp, faintly accented. No preamble.]
We are here to fight a war. How many of you are remotely prepared?
[She's guessing like three. But then again, she has high standards for preparedness.]

no subject
audio;
There is little difference. Being ready to fight implies an ability to adapt to what we have to fight.
audio;
Still. Have you ever heard of the term "outside context problem"?
audio;
Something for which one is unprepared, having never encountered or imagined its like.

[She clicks over to private mode.]
Lack of preparedness on the part of some people aside—there's no shortage of people here with their thumbs up their arses, as far as I can tell—the main thing that concerns me is that whatever we're up against is going to be an outside context problem for a lot of people.

[No judgement. Just a statement of fact.]

[But she's. Teasing? A little.]

Master of the obvious, that's me.
Anyway, to your original question—I suppose I'm as ready as I can be. It won't be the first time I've gone to war, nor the last.
I suppose from a certain point of view that it's a weakness that I can't help being concerned for the helplessly outmatched.

[Which is High Praise coming from her.]
I did not say you could not babysit them. Only that I would not.
[Then a slight shrug.]
The women, perhaps. The men can rot, they do not have the excuse of systematic oppression aimed at neutering their effectiveness in battle.

[Una knows that kind of praise when she hears it, having dealt it out herself occasionally.]
Everyone's got a job to do. Though I rather get the impression that a lot of the foreigner women are the kind who don't need much babysitting.

[She laughs.]
Have you met a British woman, Peggy Carter? You would like her.
audio | private
Yes, I know Peggy. And I do like her.
audio | private
[She nods in faint approval.]
But for every woman like Peggy Carter, or you and I, there are those that do not know how to fight. Who will only get in our way. You cannot protect them all. Choose your battles.
audio | private
I know. That's the story of my life, Aisha.
audio | private
And mine. But there is no sense crying over it.
Re: audio | private
True enough. I'd never stop lamenting otherwise, and that gets boring.

Are you sufficiently armed?

Train with me. We will see what you are made of.

Name the time and place and I'll be there.
