And what do you consider 'benefit'?

I would say the cause which grants the people here the greater quality of life, and what that is judged to be, by the greater number of them.

I resent the implication that the Emperor's will is judged the most important matter in all things here, particularly when so many have been brought from lives they did not intend to leave behind and suddenly, but, if the Emperor's reign is an evil that protects the people rather than endangers them, it may be that it is the best tool to be had just now.

I would fight against it were it only me to consider, but it is not. So I must wait and watch and plan, and then decide.

You are a fan of the ideal democracy.

And how will you go about this planning of yours?

I would see a world where all work toward the betterment of all, all are equal and free to live in Rousseau's proposed harmony free of governmental chains but left to self determination, yes.

The planning lies in influence and information, distributed from both sides of the argument, as well as explanation of what the information means, for every man, that he be allowed to choose as he would. If such a thing is not the will of the people, no matter how I may wish it to be, I would have no place in interfering, but they must know the alternatives first I think.

As for more general planning here, it will depend on situations as they arise.

[She snorts softly.]

Such a thing is unattainable. Men will always seek to set themselves above other men. But I wish you luck in that, for what worth you find in it. Do you have a name, little idealist?

Because we have accepted less than the ideal perhaps, instead of gone on towards better. It is, of course, a risk the tide will sway as you mention, Madame, but even some degree of that ideal achieved is better than we have just now. I do not mean to say I would not accept compromise but only what I always strive for. Sadly,

Men do not often live up to the ideal that they represent. Even a step towards the right direction and his natural state of freedom from his chains, is better than what I left at home.
