[Jim's sitting in his suite, wearing his command golds, looking serious as a heart attack. He's leaning forward, one hand braced against the armrest of his chair, the other fiddling with something on the console. Satisfied, he leans back more fully and nods once to the camera.]
Okay, let's get the introductions out of the way first. Name's Jim, Jim Kirk. Captain of the USS Enterprise. I serve in Starfleet in the year 2259 - Starfleet being a space-based armada focused on peaceful exploration and the discovery of new forms of life in the universe.
[There's a slight quirk to his brow, he coughs and then continues with all due charisma,]
I know there's people out there that've been here longer than I have, so I'm asking for your help - and the assistance of anyone willing. We know we're here to fight something, some of you know what and why. While I can understand the reasoning behind keeping that information to allies, I'd like to stress the fact that we're all in this together, regardless of worlds, races or creeds. This isn't something we can or should fight blind. So I'm proposing a broader alliance, a centralized repository of information, and the consideration of a unified front to face whatever's coming.
Additionally, I'm interested in the martial capabilities of the landed foreigners, any contingency plans that have been put in place to deal with the situations we're potentially facing here, and the sorts of scenarios that've been dealt with in the past.
[He exhales a little more sharply than necessary, and then he gives the camera a brief, two-fingered salute.]
Kirk out.
[and edited in after the fact, private to Kyle Rayner.]
We should talk.

[Not that she's against diplomacy, she prefers it before violence. She moves to stand up, hand ruffling his hair as she does so. It creates a tuft up front that reminds her of the Doctor's, and she's quick to smooth it right back on down.]
It's a turtle. A giant one, mind you, but still. Turtle. Rules are gonna be a bit different in a place like this, where just about anything could be possible. I'm gonna fight, if it comes down to it. So you better be ready to back me up, 'cause I can't do it all alone.

[He spins his chair to look at her properly. She's not a fighter. She's good at it, but it's not-- she's still a civilian. And Jim wants to protect her. She's practically a member of his crew, he needs to keep her safe because he couldn't do the same for them, and he rubs a hand across his eyes and massages his temples.]
You know I've got your back. No matter what, okay?
no subject
[She wonders if his idea of having her back is doing what the Doctor's done on occasion, and making choices for her, sending her away for her own safety. She tries to get a good read on his face, and scrutinizes it even, to the point she looks worried.]
And I've got yours, forever. So any information you get, you'll share with me, right?

[He meets her gaze without flinching, but his expression stays neutral.]
I want you to do some training with Spock. Hand to hand stuff. He's a better teacher than I am.
no subject
Yeah, 'course I will. Do you really think it's gonna come down to that though? Having to fight like that?
[Because even with training, she doesn't see herself being particularly strong at hand to hand combat. But she's willing to give it a shot.]
Think he'd mind it all that much? Teaching me? Sometimes I don't think he knows what to do with me.

[He reaches out and tugs her into his arms, kisses her hair. He doesn't know how this happened, but she managed to end up being sister and crew all at the same time and he'd do anything for her. Even if it meant letting her fight.]
He was an instructor at the Academy back when I was a student there.
[He grins, and the quality of his embrace becomes a little less heavy. He squeezes her once and lets go, all smiles.]
You'll do great. I bet you'll be able to kick my ass in no time flat.

[She teases, riding on a post hug high. And just to show that she can, she hits at his arm. Gently, of course. She doesn't want to actually hurt him. Laughing, she moves in a circle around him, just like she's seen on boxing. She is in no way actually intimidating, because she's all toothy grins and giggles, and pink and yellow and not threatening in any way.]
Right, yeah, I know you're gobsmacked by all this coming at ya. It's okay, Jim. I won't tell anyone, our little secret?
[It's a playful lilt to her voice as she "trash talks", and it's on a loud laugh that she pulls herself in for another hug, something a bit clumsy as she leans into him and pats at the arm she just hit at.]
Might have to tell Spock, though. Earn points on my first day of lessons.
no subject
Tell you what, Chief. You're head of security as of now. That means you can kick my butt at your leisure.
[He strokes her hair and just. Laughs. Rose always manages to make him feel light. Being around her feels like being back at the Academy, before all the hurt and pain, before Nero, before his graduating class got wiped out in an attack like the one that killed his dad.
It's almost worrying, how well he could see Rose fitting into that life. Of course, she's got her own thing going on, but she's so much like so many people he's met that it's hard not to consider it.]
And are you kidding? Spock already knows. Guaranteed.
no subject
Gotta say, I don't think I can do it. I like you better in one piece.
[A kiss is placed to his cheek then, because he's safe from her clearly superior fighting skills.]
Tell you what, though. Chief? Doesn't sound half bad.
no subject
Guess that means you're stuck with it.
no subject
Got no problem with that, Captain. Not a single one.
no subject
That's because you are very awesome. Now c'mon, isn't it about lunch time? I'm starving.
