[Jim's sitting in his suite, wearing his command golds, looking serious as a heart attack. He's leaning forward, one hand braced against the armrest of his chair, the other fiddling with something on the console. Satisfied, he leans back more fully and nods once to the camera.]

Okay, let's get the introductions out of the way first. Name's Jim, Jim Kirk. Captain of the USS Enterprise. I serve in Starfleet in the year 2259 - Starfleet being a space-based armada focused on peaceful exploration and the discovery of new forms of life in the universe.

[There's a slight quirk to his brow, he coughs and then continues with all due charisma,]

I know there's people out there that've been here longer than I have, so I'm asking for your help - and the assistance of anyone willing. We know we're here to fight something, some of you know what and why. While I can understand the reasoning behind keeping that information to allies, I'd like to stress the fact that we're all in this together, regardless of worlds, races or creeds. This isn't something we can or should fight blind. So I'm proposing a broader alliance, a centralized repository of information, and the consideration of a unified front to face whatever's coming.

Additionally, I'm interested in the martial capabilities of the landed foreigners, any contingency plans that have been put in place to deal with the situations we're potentially facing here, and the sorts of scenarios that've been dealt with in the past.

[He exhales a little more sharply than necessary, and then he gives the camera a brief, two-fingered salute.]

Kirk out.

[and edited in after the fact, private to Kyle Rayner.]

We should talk.

Guy's a freak of nature who can toss cars around, why do you think? Not to mention the whole flying thing, and that stupid S on his chest.

[She can fly too, but that's not the point here. Not like she's going around calling herself Superwoman. Even the thought of it, however brief, is enough to make her shudder in revulsion.

Mostly because with name similarities like that, some loser would get to gossiping and somebody might think they were an item and just ew. EW.]

What I need is his head on a silver platter! Preferably thanks to me!

[His continued existence is, to say the least, a bit of a sore spot.]

Yeah, there was. Back when I had a life.

I actually kinda like what's happenin' to us. Because I know he's gotta deal with bein' just like the rest of us, and I get a few days to pretend I'm normal again.

Recovering. The last attempt to kill the jerk didn't work out so good.

Besides, with everybody's powers on the fritz, I've gotta do normal stuff again. Eat, sleep, that sorta thing. Guess I forgot how much time a little shut-eye takes outta the day.

Don't be stupid, spaceboy!

[You get a narrowing of the eyes, Kirk. But it's a Harley-grade glare, so it's more general irritation than anything else. The sort that says "I'd reach through the screen and smack you upside the head if I could."]

It's a side effect. All I need to get by's electricity. 'Til this mess happened, the last time I had a little shut-eye was months ago.

[At that, she slumps back in her chair. She's honestly trying to deal with the sudden normality of it all. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy being normal again, but some of it took some getting used to. The whole thing felt kinda like coming off a year-long caffeine high, all at once.]

And believe me, it ain't all it's cracked up to be when you're spendin' most of that time locked in a cell. You get a little stir-crazy.

Don't exactly let you work with rope 'n string in the slammer. It's a security thing.

[Wouldn't want her getting bored and weaving all those strings into actual rope. Not like she had a cell with windows, but she could still snag a guard.

Or a really, really careless Janitor. He'd have probably been better off for it.]

Didn't figure you for the arts 'n crafts type, cap. You turn your quarters into an art gallery?

[Then again, she didn't really know how long your trips tended to take. Maybe you actually did leave a captain's log in the stuff. Still, she's all smiles at the thought of the captain sitting around making string art. Mostly because it makes it easier for him to avoid giving him anything resembling proper respect as an officer.]

Yeah, the kind over eighty.

[Suffice to say, Kirk, she does not believe you. Though her tone quickly switches from one of disbelief to something a little more playful soon enough]

But hey, maybe you space cadets are into that kinda thing.
