I suppose I should make a proper introduction, and this seems the best way to do it although it's dreadfully impersonal.

I am Dr. Hannibal Lecter. I'm a psychiatrist, and was a physician for many years before my retirement from that field. However, if I've understood correctly we are facing some difficult times here, so I am happy to offer my medical services if needed. A shame about the rationing, too. Proper nutrition is essential, and there's nothing quite like a well-cooked meal.

But, regardless of the situation, I am very pleased to meet you all and I hope we can get to know each other better.

Bad shit happens, you have to cut back. It's how things go. If people can't handle a little rationing we've got more problems here than we thought.

I doubt there is anyone here who can't handle it, but it is not ideal and if it continues for any significant duration, may start to have negative effects on everyone's health.

You can optimize nutrition and still keep with rationing. It's all about organization. Armies do it all the time. If they're good ones.

While I understand why armies and such use rationing, the sheer enjoyment of cuisine is one of life's finest pleasures and it is such a shame to be denied.

Nothing that one can't live without, but a shame nonetheless.

[He has to agree that good food is definitely a good thing.] You might just have a point there. But tough shit, I'm pretty sure we're not getting back to "no rationing" any time soon. It's been like this since I got here and the only week we didn't have it was because of some holiday. You'll have to make do with what we've got.

I am not going to wither and die, nor do I intend to complain about it further. I will make do.

If they want me to, then yes. And it's hardly weak to need psychological help, no more than it is weak to seek treatment for a broken bone or an infection.

More like too many people around here whining just because they got transported to a turtle and can't handle it instead of getting over it.

Perhaps they have other reasons for being unable to cope. I'm not in a position to judge my clients, simply to help them.

You don't think anyone here has a valid reason to be distressed?

I think it doesn't do any good when we're stuck here and won't be going home until the job gets done.

Some people may not be able to get the job done if they don't work through certain issues first.
