[ The audio clicks on and there's a long pause. When Kyle speaks, his tone is calm, perfectly controlled. It's his Business Voice, blank save for the barest hint of anger. ]

This is Kyle Rayner of the Green Lantern Corps. I apologise for the inconvenience, but our clinic at EA-3B is currently undergoing repairs and won't be able to take more patients at this time. We'll be temporarily operating a backup at WA-1A. [ He attaches a map, showing where it is. ]

Any and all hands with medical experience or healing abilities are always welcome.

[ Another long pause. ]

And if someone could come collect Avatar Korra, that would be appreciated.

[ There is a brief pause, as though he's debating what more to say, before the audio clicks off. ]

[A snicker.] Sure. Just have to find something to fight about.

What happened with you and Korra? She's got a temper, but she doesn't usually just destroy stuff.

[That's usually Toph's area -- random destruction. (Though generally not of people's clinics, either.]

[Since there's a more pressing matter at hand, he flips up the encryption. To anyone else it looks like he's avoiding the issue.]

She's a hothead all right. [He sounds pensive, but something tells him Toph will get the truth out of him so he may as well speak it on his own terms.]

She came in looking for a patient, saw a poster, and there went half the first floor. Not exactly in my schedule for today.

[Another snicker, though Toph doesn't comment as she considers his words. (Also, wise move on his part -- she probably would.)]

Self-defence lessons. Lot of weird stuff happens here, one can't be too careful.

[Speaking of careful.]

[Headtilt.] And yeah, I am. Earthbender.

[Among a couple other related things, but Toph will always primarily think of herself as an earthbender.]

[That one's a joke, even though technically it's also true.]

Oi, blowing stuff up with fire is a very reasonable calling, especially if it gives the bad guy a good scare.

[He does it all the time! And then, a pause.]

Chi-blocking doesn't have the same effects in my world as it does in yours, but try telling Korra that.

[He's taking a gamble here and hoping she's going to be reasonable about it.]

[A long stare from Toph -- or what would pass as one if her eyes focused on anything. Kyle's given her disjointed information, and it takes a second to put the pieces together.]

So the poster was for Amon's chi-blocking class thing.

[Her arms slide into a cross, but she looks more thoughtful than anything else.]

Okay, I get it. She felt like you were supporting him.

[Her eyebrows rose.]

Are you?

[That's a lot better than what everyone else has given him, and he's relieved.]

No.

[His answer is firm, and absolutely without hesitation. He doesn't add an explanation, because she didn't ask for one.]
